MAYOR
HAHN ANNOUNCES RECORD RECRUITMENT OF WOMEN AT LAPD
LOS ANGELES - Mayor Jim Hahn today announced that this month's Los
Angeles Police Department (LAPD) recruitment class is 30 percent
women, setting a new record for the department.
"This success is an indication of the momentum we have built at
LAPD to attract qualified and enthusiastic candidates who are dedicated
to lowering crime in Los Angeles," said Mayor Hahn. "This is great
news and I encourage other women to join the Los Angeles Police
Department."
Six months ago Mayor Hahn announced his female recruitment initiative
aimed at increasing recruitment and retention of women at the LAPD.
The initiative includes recruitment materials that feature women,
opportunities for women to increase their physical fitness training
before entering the Police Academy, mentoring programs, and opportunities
for women recruits to provide feedback to the departments.
Currently, 19 percent of sworn LAPD officers are women.
