Mayor
Hahn Proclaims 3-1-1 Day in the City of Los Angeles
March 11, 2003
- Press Release
Hello all,
The Mayor has proclaimed today, March 11, 2003 as 3-1-1 Day in the
City of Los Angeles.
The 3-1-1 system consolidates city service telephone numbers into
one easy-to-remember number that city residents, businesses and
visitors can call for city information and non-emergency services.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate
to give me a call.
Thanks.

EDITOR'S NOTE:
I've been told that dialing 3-1-1 from a cellphone or most
payphones may not work. Unless you are on a cellphone on the
Cingular network you will have to instead dial:
1 - 866 / 452-2489
or as the city puts it:
1 - 866 / 4LACITY
It's probably
not a bad idea to keep this real number handy as 3-1-1 will
also probably be blocked by most PBX phone systems in many
offices.

MAYOR
HAHN PROCLAIMS 3-1-1
DAY IN THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES
LOS ANGELES - Mayor Jim Hahn today officially proclaimed March 11,
2003 as 3-1-1 day in the City of Los Angeles.
"As part of my commitment to providing every resident, business
and visitor to Los Angeles with world-class customer service, I
am proclaiming today, March 11, 2003 as 3-1-1 day in the City of
Los Angeles," said Mayor Hahn. "The 3-1-1 program gives residents
easy access to any service with 'one call to City Hall.'
The 3-1-1 system consolidates city service telephone numbers into
one easy-to-remember number that city residents, businesses and
visitors can call for city information and non-emergency services.
Customers can also dial 3-1-1 during non-business hours, including
weekends and holidays, to request bulky item pick-up. Additional
pilot service requests for 3-1-1 are scheduled to begin soon while
the City develops a comprehensive service request system where "one
call does it all."
Since 3-1-1 was implemented in November 2002, calls to the city's
9-1-1 system have decreased by 5 percent. The reduction in non-emergency
calls has enabled law enforcement to better respond to true emergencies.

HAHN ANNOUNCES NEW ONLINE SERVICE TO PAY PARKING TICKETS
LOS ANGELES
- Mayor Jim Hahn today with the Department of Transportation and
its parking citation contractor, Affiliated Computer Services, announced
a new online service the public can use to pay parking citations
on the internet.
"This new online service gives our residents and visitors another
easy and quick option for paying a parking ticket," said Mayor Hahn.
The new online service allows parking citation payments to be made
with a credit card via a secured website on the internet. This service
can be accessed through the Department of Transportation's website
at:

"While no one likes to
pay a parking ticket, we hope the online service will at least make
it more convenient to pay the fine," said Department of Transportation
General Manager Wayne Tanda.
The new website offers users another payment option and complements
the existing Pay-By-Phone service which allows payment of parking
citations by credit card via telephone.
