Community Mobilization Project
Chevy Chase Park region
Northeast Division
LA Community Policing is proud to be participating in the ongoing
"Neighbor To Neighbor Community Mobilization Projects"
developed by grassroots community members and government officials
in the Northeast Area.
The first one was dedicated to the Glassell Park community, and
LACP's Everett Littlefield, a Northeast Division C-PAB member, played
a key role.
The second project will launch in the end of October, and will be
devoted to a neighborhood surrounding Chevy Chase Park in Atwater
Village ... in a community that has felt neglected for too long.

The
"Neighbor To Neighbor" project has an interesting two-tier
format. The first part takes the shape of a Resource Fair, where
people will find a variety of city service booths. The event will
be held Saturday, October 25th, and will serve as the kick-off to
launch the rest of the project.
Because it's the second part that makes this effort unique. On November
1st, a week after the initial event takes place, members of the
"Neighbor To Neighbor" committee will walk the streets,
"Door-to-Door," encouraging residents to engage in a variety
of city and grassroots efforts.
Those who walk will listen to community concerns, explain possible
solutions and invite their neighbors to participate in any number
of local groups, including the Friends of Atwater Village, the Atwater
Village Residents' Association, the recently certified Atwater Village
Neighborhood Council, Neighborhood Watch, Rotary and lions' Clubs,
and a small, growing Chamber of Commerce.
The second of these walks is scheduled for a week later, November
8th.
Here's the "official" description:
Neighbor
To Neighbor
Community
Mobilization Projects
Los Angeles City Mayor, Jim Hahn, Councilman Eric Garcetti,
the Northeast Community LAPD with the coordinated efforts of
committed Atwater Village Residents have formed a new coalition
called the "Neighbor To Neighbor Community Mobilization Project."
On Saturday, October 25. 2003 from 11:00am to 3:00pm,
the Community Mobilization Project will begin by hosting a kick-off
event, the "Bemis-Brunswick Resource Fair"
to take place at the Chevy Chase Park in the Community
of Atwater Village.
Our goal is to provide resources and education to the residents
on improving their "overall quality of life" in housing, city
services, and other aspects of life. Then on Saturday
November 1 and November 8, 2003, we will take a step
further to engage neighbors through a month-to-month "Door-to-Door"
Campaign in our ongoing commitment to extend ourselves to neighbors
and express the importance of developing neighborly ties in
helping to build self-reliance.
Your participation in the "Resource Fair" and the "Door-to-Door"
Campaign is important if we are to become successful in the
"Neighbor To Neighbor Community Mobilization Project." We know
it is a bold effort to inspire individual empowerment to the
neighborhood and with your help, WE WILL BE SUCCESSFUL!
We have included a "Registration Form" for your group/agency
to participate in this event. Please complete the form and return
as soon as possible via FAX, Mail, or E-mail indicated on the
form. Booth contributions (i.e. magnets, pins, etc.) will also
be appreciated. We need your support at all levels to improve
our neighborhoods, block by block in the City of Los Angeles.
