In May 2004,
the Los Angeles City Attorney's Elder Abuse Task Force merged
with the L.A. Metro Multidisciplinary Team for Elders at Risk
and with the Valley Interprofessional Team for Elders at Risk
to create a Citywide Elders at Risk Task Force in partnership with Adult Protective Services.
Background
The LA Metro
team met every two months since 1998 and was hosted by the Los Angeles
County Department of Senior Services at the Adult Protective Services
Mid-Wilshire location. The L.A. Metro MDT was chosen to be featured
in the National Crime Prevention Council's (NCPC) publication 50 Strategies
to Prevent Violent Domestic Crimes (2002). The team
is co-chaired by Anne Marie Lardeau and Robin Weinstein.
The
Valley team met every month since 1994 at the VA GLAHS, Sepulveda Ambulatory
Care Center and continues with its regular format every other
month. The Valley team is chaired by Martha Waite, MSW, LCSW.
The new
Los Angeles City Attorney Elders at Risk Task Force meets monthly
and alternates between downtown and the Valley. The citywide Task Force is part of City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo's
commitment to protect seniors. The
teams will continue to feature case discussions between professionals
in a confidential setting and presentations made by experts. In
addition, agenda items are added to address citywide issues.
Mission
The purpose of the Los Angeles City Attorney Elders at Risk
Task Force is to:

of better serving the community. The team is supported by the
goodwill of the participants, with in-kind donations, and receives
no funding. More than 70 public and private agencies participate
in the Task Force.

rules are followed by law. For this reason membership is restricted
to professionals and non-profit agencies who provide care services
