Mayor
Hahn Urges Bilingual Volunteers
to Assist City's Crisis Response Team
Special need of volunteers with bilingual
capability in Spanish or Korean
Press Release
November 12, 2004 |
Los
Angeles - Mayor Jim Hahn today announced volunteer opportunities
for individuals living or working in the City of Los Angeles to
become a member of the City of Los Angeles Crisis Response Team
(CRT). The program is especially in need of volunteers with bilingual
capability in Spanish or Korean.
The CRT is comprised
of groups of volunteers who provide immediate on-scene crisis intervention
and referrals to victims and their families involved or who have
been traumatized by the experience of a death, a serious injury,
a violent crime or in a traumatic incident. The program is managed
by the Mayor's Office in close coordination with the City's Fire
and Police Departments.
"The presence
of a CRT volunteer on site allows police and fire officials to attend
to their primary duties," said Mayor Hahn. "CRT volunteers
provide an invaluable service to families of victims of tragedies."
Volunteers must
be at least 21 years old and in good physical condition. The next
training session begins in January 2005 in the Los Angeles Airport
area. CRT volunteers go thru intensive training designed to help
them develop the skills, knowledge, attitudes and relationships
necessary to function effectively in the field.
For further
details and to arrange an interview, please contact CRT Coordinator
Jeff Zimerman, M.S.W., at 213/978-0695 or by e-mail: jzimerma@mayor.lacity.org.
