EDITOR'S NOTE: Here's a wonderful example of how a community
effort can make a significant difference in a neighborhood ... and
a neighborhood at a time is how we'll change LA.
In this case, Hubbard College of Administration is opening its doors
and offering its resources to the business community in the Vermont
area (Rampart Division).
This is an announcement of a first of a series of meetings designed
to getting business leaders in the private sector and resources
from government to come together for our mutual benefit.
LA Community Policing is delighted to be playing a role. We believe
such partnerships can foster cooperative efforts throughout the
City and can go a long way towards making LA the safest big city
in America.

Dear Friend of the Rampart Community:
Hubbard College of Administration at 320 North Vermont, Los Angeles,
is offering up its resources to help organize a community business
group. We are offering student and alumni volunteers, a facility
for meetings and events, a resource center for information, a free
consulting center for our neighborhood businesses, and other resources
as needed.
We all see things that need to be improved in our neighborhood.
We all feel the effects of crime, of graffiti, of transients, of
drugs, gangs and other problems that make it difficult for our neighborhood
businesses to flourish and prosper. We see the budget cuts in our
city and state governments. But we can do something about it if
we work together.
The first thing we can do is personally decide to do something about
it. The second thing we can do is to come together as a group and
explore ways to participate and engage on making our neighborhood
safe, clean, and prosperous. We can work together to apply successful
principles of management and organization to our larger community
as well as to our own organizations. What we see around us in our
neighborhood is the result of our own action or lack of it.
We're all busy. We all have our jobs and family commitments. And
this is exactly why we need to form up a dedicated group of business
people in our neighborhood. Each person can contribute his own expertise
and whatever time is available whether is it one hour a week, two
hours a month.
With the combined power of all of us in a shoulder-to-shoulder effort
we can effectively accomplish the goal of a safe, clean, peaceful
and thriving area in which our neighbor businesses can flourish
and prosper.
Please join us on Wednesday, March 10th at 6:00 p.m. at the Hubbard
College of Administration at 320 North Vermont Avenue. Please tell
your neighbors to join us. We will also have representatives from
the LAPD, from the Mayor's Office and from Council Member Eric Garcetti's
Office. They are backing us up in this effort and really want to
work with us to accomplish our goals.
There is a large parking lot behind our building that can be entered
from Juanita Street. We have sent out a letter and a survey to over
600 of our neighbors in three languages, English, Spanish and Korean.
If you would like a copy of the letter and survey, please contact
the President's Office at 323 / 660-8685 and we will be happy to
send you a copy.
