EDITOR'S NOTE: Here's a wonderful example of how a community effort can make a significant difference in a neighborhood ... and a neighborhood at a time is how we'll change LA. In this case, Hubbard College of Administration opened its doors and offering its resources to the business community in the Vermont area (Rampart Division).

The second meeting will be held on April 7th, and promises to be even more sucessful than the first. The Alliance agreed to take a solution-oriented approach,
designed to get business leaders in the private sector and resources from government to come together for their mutual benefit.

LA Community Policing is delighted to be playing a role. We believe such partnerships can foster cooperative efforts throughout the City and can go a long way towards making LA the safest big city in America.

Business Owners Meet
Establish Priorities for the Area

Business owners from the Rampart area met at the Hubbard College of Administration at 320 N. Vermont, on Wednesday March 10th to form the Rampart Community Business Alliance.

The meeting began with networking and getting to know each other. This led to more business opportunities for those who attended.

We agreed to take a solution-oriented approach and to take positive actions that will make our area a place where businesses can thrive and flourish and prosper.

We will be working in coordination with our City offices and agencies and using the resources that are available. This is our area and it will be as good as we decide to make it. What we see around us is a reflection of our action or inaction.

Senior Lead Officer Juan Franco told the business owners that he is here to help and explained how business owners in our area can work with him to resolve their problems.

Marcela Lucero Field Deputy from Councilman Garcetti's Office addressed the group and let them know that her office will fully support this group.

Mark Chapa, our Neighborhood Representative, from Mayor Jim Hahn's Office, spoke to group members and let them know that he will work to support the group in anyway he can.

Deputy City Attorney, Donna Wong, brought information on available city services for those attending and briefed the attendees on the services available from her office and from the City.

The Rampart Community Business Alliance Group agreed to focus on three areas over the next six months and to take actions that will show visible improvement.

1st Priority: Clean Up the Area!

Examples of this include cleaning up the streets, graffiti removal, areas where trash is dumped, litter caused by transients, etc.

There are many resources available to us as business owners from the City. One member of the group volunteered to be the Resource Person for this project and will do the research and report back at the next meeting the how we can utilize these resources to make a visible difference in the cleanliness of our area.A clean area is good for business!

2nd Priority: Make Our Area Safer!

There are many steps that we can take in our businesses to make our area safer for our businesses, our employees, and our customers. A member of the group volunteered to be the Resource Person for this project and will do the research and report back at the next meeting on the steps we can take as business owners to make our area safer.

Bill Murray, Founder, Los Angeles Community Policing (lacp.org) will be assisting with information in this area also.

A safe area is good for business!

3rd Priority: Get More Community Involvement With Business Owners

In order to accomplish our objectives, we must get more of the business community involved with our efforts. Mario Amaya of radio station KWKW reported on the Rampart Community Business Alliance following the meeting and encourage participation from his listeners. Each person attending agreed to distribute information and flyers and to bring 3 others with them to the next meeting.

Business Community Involvement is Good for Business!
