Juvenile Division
The Jeopardy
Program was established in 1990 at Foothill Area. The Jeopardy
Program is a gang prevention/intervention program for boys and
girls ages 8 through 17 and their parents. Jeopardy combines the
strength of the community, neighborhood schools and the Department
to effect positive, lifelong attitudinal changes in young people
so as to have a positive impact on the community while diverting
youth away from gang activity and crime.
Program Goals
Police personnel and selective civilian volunteers tutor and mentor
youth participants, and strongly advocate scholastic achievement,
good citizenship and diversion from gangs and drugs. The ultimate
goal of the Jeopardy Program is to focus on the following behavioral

Program
Criteria
The Jeopardy
Program targets children "at risk" of becoming involved
in gang activity and offers them a variety of educational and physical
projects; from tutoring to martial arts. The program also targets
children "at risk" of becoming involved in criminal activity.
Program Outreach
The Jeopardy Program identifies children in need of help by notifying
their parents and holding a family interview. The child and parents
are directed to attend a monthly meeting at a local community-counseling
agency. The counseling services offer alternative activities to
be selected by the child participant.
