PRESS RELEASE

The Burbank non-profit organization, "IDEAS" (Investigative Documentaries Educating American Society) in cooperation with the "INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FILM FESTIVAL HOLLYWOOD" will continue its commitment to filmmaking and social issues by hosting "SUNDOWN ON SKID ROW", a feature length documentary about homelessness in America. The film was directed by Burbank resident Kevin McKenna, and will screen:

"Sundown on Skid Row"

Friday, June 30
7:30 pm.

"Theater HUB"
5245 Lankershim Blvd.
North Hollywood, CA.
.

The event will also include a presentation by Dr. Arthur Jones, who is a consulting producer on the film, as well as a noted human rights attorney and speaker on the homeless situation in America. The occasion will also culminate with a Q&A session that offers opportunities for people to meet with each other, network and dialogue in the heart of the NoHo Arts District.

The documentary deals with the horrors of homelessness and has interviews with many of the homeless who tell poignant stories about the reality of life on the streets. Also, featured in the video are several prominent politicians, like Congressman Adam Schiff, Senator Jack Scott, and California State Assemblyman Dario Frommer as well as, members of city government, social service professionals like BTAC's Stacy Schumacher and legal experts, like Dr. Arthur A. Jones (human rights attorney) and The Honorable Harold E. Shabo, (Supervising Judge Mental Health Dept.) and Homeless Advocate Ted Hayes, who discuss not only the problem, but some of the solutions.

The documentary also focuses on people who have dedicated their lives to solving the homeless situation. There are, among others, humanitarians, like the members of the L.A. and Valley Coalitions for the Homeless, author and Superior Court Judge Robert C. Coates (“A STREET IS NOT A HOME“) and LA County Sheriff Leroy Baca to mention just a few.

“Sundown on Skid Row” takes you onto the streets of skid row to witness first hand life and death in Box City. The video is a mixture of wine and tears dope and hope. It is also the story of the people that are driven to the edge, by the reality of existing on the street, and also of the insane that are driven from the institutions because of lack of funding.

The movie is free but if you can bring a can of food it will go directly to the hungry.
