Police Search for Man Who Tried to Kidnap 12-year-old Girl

HIGHLAND PARK -- Police are searching for a suspect who attempted to kidnap a 12-year-old girl on her way to Luther Burbank Middle School Monday morning.
It happened around 7 a.m. in an alley adjacent to the Metro Gold Line between Avenue 60 and Avenue 61 in the Highland Park area of Los Angeles.
Police say a black man driving an older model dark blue van with tinted windows stopped his vehicle and pretended to inspect it in the alleyway when he grabbed the young girl as she walked by and tried to pull her into the van.
The victim grabbed onto a wrought iron fence and screamed for help.
The suspect released the girl and then took off in the van.
The suspect is described as a black man, 5'11', wearing studded earrings.
