Okay .. I admit it .. I'm a sucker ..
I have no idea who the creator, David Del Mondo, is (apparently he's a student at UCSC, University of California Santa Cruz, where my lovely daughter, Ashlee, happens to be a 20-year-old Junior) .. but it doesn't really matter.
I'm a sucker for stuff like this, and have succumbed to a friend's Facebook invitation to "attend" the second annual Pay It Forward Day, a social networking
"event."
Now I may be a sucker, but I'm no fool. This was an easy decision. Notice I've strategically placed some quotation marks around a couple of the words in that last sentence.
To "attend" simply means making a promise to do something special today (something of my own choosing, and almost anything at all will count). And I get to do it when no one's going to be checking up on me.
By "event" they mean
"EVERYWHERE" .. or ANYWHERE .. which is easy enough, too.
But I was pleased to discover that 485,959 folks would be "attending" (more quotes .. read that "participating"), and that was early in the morning. I figure anything that can attract almost a half million attendees by 6:00 am will continue to climb all day long, and at least a FEW of these people are well intentioned enough to actually DO "something" for the cause.
And that's not a bad thing ..
Still, my question is, "Shouldn't EVERY day be a Pay It Forward Day?"
That's pretty much how I see it .. how I try to live my life. And I hope you do, too.
Yours in service,
Bill Murray

David's 2nd Annual
Pay It Forward Day
December 1st, 2010
‘Tis the Season! A random act of kindness goes a long way so…
PAY IT FORWARD!!!
What can you do?
ON DEC. 1st...
• Pay for someone's cup of coffee…
• Buy someone some groceries…
• Get the next person's gas…
• Help someone out…
• Donate something…
• Be creative!!!
When you do something for someone there's a good chance they'll do something for someone else. If not, at least you've done a good deed for someone.
So on December 1st share some kindness and spread some joy! It can be as little as a few dollars or as much as you want. No one needs to know!
Join me, won't you?
(I'm trying to make this a national event so spread the word. Maybe one day it'll be a nationally recognized day!)
I won't be offended if you don't decide to participate, but please... spread the word! |
