A personal thank you to US Attorney André Birotte

from Bill Murray - NAACC / LACP founder

I was so impressed and appreciative of the announcement I received from Thom Mrozek -- United States Attorney's Office, Central District of California (Los Angeles) -- written on behalf of his boss, and my good friend, US Attorney André Birotte, that I wrote them letter you see below.

In it you'll see my offer to speak publicly and in any place in the country to bring attention to the cause of childhood sexual abuse, kidnapped and missing kids, human trafficking and child pornography (I have personal experience with all these things, and have recovered from them).

I'd also like to reach out to adults who are still dealing with the secret of dealing with their childhood sexual abuse. I believe this is an especially important issue for many more men than we had previously know. It's particularly difficult for adult men to talk about such things. They remain as sick as their secrets.

I first launched the LA Community Policing non profit as my reaction to the events of 9-11, by way of being of service to the Los Angeles regional community, and later expanded our outreach to include a national audience, the NAACC (National Association of Alert and Concerned Citizens). I'm now prepared to redefine my work, and the efforts of our non profit organization.

I have known André Birotte since I began this effort, and watched him work for years as the LAPD Police Commission's independent Inspector General. I was thrilled to learn of his nomination and appointment as US Attorney for the Central District of Los Angeles.

Its my sincere hope that he and his Federal law enforcement friends can take full advantage of my offer to assist them in any way I can.

I present this letter by way of making the same offer to anyone, anywhere ..

Dear Thom:

Thank you for sending me this announcement.  Information on cases like this is becoming more and more the focus of the work I do, and I'm posting your release as an article on our NAACC (National Association for Alert and Concerned Citizens) / LACP (Los Angeles Community Policing) web site.

I myself was a badly molested child (starting at 11 years old and lasting through high school), the victim of multiple pedophiles and "sharing" between them, the survivor of a two week interstate and international kidnapping (at age 13) and the of model for thousands of pornographic pictures as a child. These experiences spanned my adolescence.

In my late teens and through my 20s I turned to drugs and alcohol to deal with the feelings of guilt, shame and fear stemming from my abuse.

I'm not sure how much André knows about my story, but he'll certainly recall I got clean and sober over 25 years ago .. and I began to come to terms with the molestation that happened to me as a part of my recovery.

The non profit work I launched full-time ten years ago was a part of that recovery, but I'd specifically vowed to not openly speak about the issues of my molesting and abuse until my parents (who had nothing to do with them but were devastated years later to learn about my childhood) were no longer likely to be effected.

My dad died just before the turn of the century, and my mom passed away a year go, freeing me to tell my story publicly.

As such I've begun to turn my life's work into trying to help adults who were molested as kids, and I'd like to help their families avoid going through what mine experienced.

For example, I've been talking openly about my childhood on our "Community Matters" Radio Talk show.  I've offered to travel to anyplace in the country to speak to groups and answer questions about my experience and, more importantly, my recovery.

I'm a good public speaker and seek the opportunity to turn what I once saw only as "the worst thing about me" into "the gift" I have to offer others.

If I can help one child avoid what happened to me, or one family avoid what mine went through, it'll be worth spending a substantial part of the rest of my life talking about the issue, helping others into recovery.

Please accept my thanks for the work done by the FBI, ICE and DOJ in bringing pedophiles, traffickers and child pornographers to justice .. and to the agencies that support their victims. Many of them will need years of assistance and follow-up.

In gratitude, I remain,

Yours in service,

Bill Murray
