Celebrate Independence Day Safely!

Barbeques, fireworks, vacations, spending time with your friends and family…Independence Day brings with it a sense of pride and most of all fun. This is the perfect opportunity for Citizen Corps Councils and partner programs across the country to reiterate preparedness and safety tips to community members. If your area is experiencing very high temperatures be sure to promote hydration and tell people to stay in the shade and as cool as possible. And don't forget that children, the elderly, and pets are more susceptible to the heat; take extra precaution and ensure to promote safety in your community!

For individuals, if you're travelling during Independence Day week ensure you familiarize yourself with your destination's emergency preparedness plans. Coastal areas will have evacuation routes posted or you can contact local officials – but make sure you are aware of where they are. Most hotels and motels will have emergency plans in the event of an incident as well. If you're driving be sure to have emergency supplies in your vehicle.

Most important of all HAVE FUN…FEMA ICPD wishes Citizen Corps Councils, Partner Programs, and everyone a happy, safe 4 th of July!
