LAPD warns against buying fake NHL Stanley Cup tickets
The Los Angeles Police Department is warning the public against buying tickets to the LA Kings' Stanley Cup Final game, or any events like concerts and sporting events, from people on sidewalks near the events. Several people bought tickets from private vendors on sidewalks near the Staples Center just before Wednesday's NHL game at the Staples Center. But when the buyers tried to enter the game, the tickets turned out to be fraudulent. Tickets to the Stanley Cup Final games have sold for $2,000.

Decomposed body found in Fairfax District ruled homicide
Coroner's investigators confirmed on Sunday that a putrid parked Escalade found in the Fairfax District contained a man's decomposed body. The bloated corpse was nearly unrecognizable as human remains, witnesses said. It was found in the rear seat officials of a Cadillac Escalade, said Coroner's Investigator Dana Bee. A cause of death has yet to be established, Bee said. "The case is a homicide, so I can't give you any more,'' he said.

Men ordered to trial in SF Giants fan attack outside Dodger Stadium
The words that two men spoke in a jail lockup nine months ago, unaware they were being recorded, came back to haunt them Friday as they were ordered to stand trial in a devastating attack on a San Francisco Giants fan at Dodger Stadium. In the 12-minute conversation, one man acknowledged he had attacked a Giants fan, and his cohort said he had no regrets about backing him up.

Collective Bargaining

California Highway Patrol union tentatively accepts furloughs
The California Highway Patrol officers union and Gov. Jerry Brown's administration have reached a furlough agreement to cut pay 5 percent for a year. Under the deal, the CHP's roughly 6,300 officers will be furloughed eight hours per month starting July 1. The union is the first to reach agreement with Brown, who wants pay reduction deals in place with all state worker unions to save an estimated $839 million to help close a budget gap estimated to be at least $15.7 billion.

Pensions

San Jose, San Diego pension reforms go to court
Two California cities attracting national attention for big pension-reform votes look like they are on the same path - court filings last week to speed up legal decisions, and city council meetings this week to consider plans for new hires. But the public pension reforms approved by 66.25 percent of voters in San Diego, the state's second largest city, and by 69.58 percent of voters in San Jose, the third largest, are not the same and face different problems.

Legislation

Medical probation bill would release some inmates early
Faced with an influx of inmates, sheriffs across the state are backing a bill that would allow some felons to leave jail before they have completed serving their sentences. The legislation would apply to inmates who are dying or are so physically incapacitated that they pose no threat to the public. The bill would help counties deal with some of the costs associated with a new state policy known as realignment.

Ballot Initiatives

Move over, Wisconsin -- the union battle is beginning in California
Labor unions and business interests have been quietly raising millions of dollars and testing campaign messages for months, girding for a brawl over a November ballot measure that could fundamentally shift political power in Sacramento. Now, on the heels of an election that saw unions handed a major defeat last week in Wisconsin, the opposing camps in California soon will launch a campaign battle likely to consume $50 million or more in political spending.
