Victims fund had $29 million more
California's special fund for crime victims contained almost $29 million more than officials thought when they approved millions in cuts last year, according to a state review that concluded that a state parks money-hoarding scandal is a one-time case. The probe by Gov. Jerry Brown's Department of Finance looked into $3.7 billion in discrepancies between fund balances listed by the department and the State Controller's Office. It found no evidence that there were other efforts to squirrel away money.
