LAPPL and City to Enter Contract Mediation in Mid-February
Today, the Los Angeles Police Protective League announced it will enter into mediation with the City of Los Angeles in mid-February to negotiate a new contract for members of the LAPD. The League also released a brief video that shows unique work done by police officers to assure public safety. Craig Lally, President of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, commented on behalf of the League, “The LAPPL looks forward to negotiating a contract with fair compensation that recognizes the dangerous work our officers do and retains our experienced and well-trained officers who tirelessly work to keep our City safe. We are committed to finding a solution with the City, which is why we agreed to enter into mediation and look forward to a compromise, especially with violent crime rates rising over 14 percent. We are hopeful we will reach an agreement as there is broad understanding that the ultimate goal is the highest level of public safety for our City.”

But without more information about why suspects weren't arrested and charged, observers say the public is left guessing. Besides bringing killers to justice, police close cases for certain reasons — from dead suspects to uncooperative prosecutors. A breakdown could show if the system is askew and point to solutions, experts say.
