Commission Nominates Parker Center Longtime Home of LAPD, A Historic Monument
The Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Commission nominated Parker Center, the iconic former headquarters of the Los Angeles Police Department, as a Historic-Cultural Monument during a commission meeting Thursday. The commission wants to preserve the building, which was built in 1955.The LAPD moved out of the facility in 2009. The current Police Administration Building is located at 100 West First Street, about a couple hundred yards away from the Parker Center.

Mayor faults LAPD over meeting featuring ex-Mexican Mafia member
Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck admitted late Thursday that "mistakes were made in holding" a meeting this week in downtown L.A. between a convicted ex-member of the Mexican Mafia, a group of business leaders and local law enforcement officials."I have directed the department to more thoroughly review future events before committing LAPD resources," Beck said in a statement.

$50 Million Lawsuit Planned In N.Y. Police Shooting Of Unarmed Black Man Akai Gurley
The girlfriend of an unarmed black man shot dead by a police officer in a housing project's dark stairwell notified New York City on Thursday that she plans to file a $50 million lawsuit over his death.The fatal shooting of Akai Gurley, 28, in Brooklyn in November was among a string of incidents that fueled widespread protests over what critics say is a pattern of lethal police misconduct toward minority groups.

2nd Bryan Stow Attacker Pleads Guilty to Gun Charge
One of the two men convicted in the beating of Giants fan Bryan Stow has changed his plea to guilty in a federal weapons charge. Louie Sanchez, 32, appeared in court Thursday afternoon and pleaded guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition.

Arrested In NoHo Street Racing Crackdown
Police have arrested several people allegedly involved in a street racing group in the San Fernando Valley.The bust went down around midnight Thursday at a Home Depot parking lot at Sherman Way and Lankershim in North Hollywood, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Man accused of smashing LAPD patrol car windows pleads not guilty
A man caught on camera smashing the windows of an LAPD patrol car outside the Hollywood & Highland complex nearly a year ago pleaded no contest Thursday to a felony vandalism charge. Leyston Rice, 28, was immediately sentenced to a year in county jail and five years probation.

2 High School Students Killed, 2 Injured in Street-Racing Crash on PCH in Wilmington
A brother and sister were killed and two other high school students were injured in a “catastrophic” wrong-way collision on Pacific Coast Highway in Wilmington on Thursday afternoon, authorities said. Police initially said the crash was the result of street racing.

Police accuse 2 men of using Uber to make Thousand Oaks drug deal
Two suspected drug dealers were arrested Wednesday after they used ride-sharing service Uber to deliver highly potent hash oil in Thousand Oaks, sheriff's officials said.Ventura County sheriff's deputies stopped the Uber driver for a vehicle code violation about 11:58 a.m. in Thousand Oaks when they discovered his passengers were suspected of dealing drugs, Capt. Jim Fryhoff said.

Santa Ana Man In Custody In Fatal Hit-And-Run Accident
A 45-year-old man was in custody Thursday on suspicion of fatally striking a woman while driving under the influence of alcohol. According to the Santa Ana Police Department, officers were sent around 10:10 p.m. Wednesday to the 1100 block of West MacArthur Boulevard for report of a traffic collision, which involved an SUV that struck a pedestrian and fled.

‘Rolled Up Sleeves Bandit' Sought By Police In 2 OC Bank Robberies
A man nick named by the FBI as the “Rolled Up Sleeves Bandit” was sought by police on Thursday for allegedly robbing two banks in Huntington Beach. According to the Huntington Beach Police Department, officers were sent around 12:18 p.m. Wednesday to the Bank of the West, located in the 19000 block of Brookhurst Street, for report of a bank robbery that had just occurred.

Search Underway In Wrightwood For 12-Year-Old Reported Missing
A 12-year-old boy was home Thursday night after concerned neighbors spent hours searching the Wrightwood area for him. Leroy Papke, the father of the boy, said Steven missed the school bus to Phelan a few miles away in the morning and hadn't been seen since.

14-Year-Old Girl Reported Missing In LA
Police sought the public's help Thursday in locating a 14-year-old girl who was last seen in Westchester. Lauren Jackson left her family's home, located in the 6700 block of 88th Street, around 5:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Jackson's family explained they are concerned for her welfare due to her young age. Detectives described her as a black female with brown hair and brown eyes. She stands 5-foot-10 tall and weighs about 120 pounds.

More L.A. homeless veterans found housing in 2014, city says
An increased number of homeless veterans in Los Angeles moved into housing last year, city officials said Thursday. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti's office said 3,375 homeless veterans found housing, higher than in previous years, according to the United Way of Greater Los Angeles.

Hundreds rally to demand that Riverside cut ties with city in Vietnam
Waving the flag of South Vietnam and chanting through bullhorns, hundreds of protesters gathered Thursday outside City Hall in Riverside, demanding that the city renounce its newly inked partnership with a city in Vietnam. Many of the protesters arrived in a fleet of rented buses from Little Saigon in Orange County, where deep animosity remains toward the communist government that controls their now-united homeland.
