Group Offers To Cover Costs Of LAPD Event With Ex-Mexican Mafia Leader
A nonprofit group of business leaders who attended a controversial LAPD-organized event featuring a convicted ex-leader of the Mexican Mafia has offered to reimburse the department's costs, officials said Monday. KNX 1070's Maggie McKay reports the Young Presidents' Organization has apparently contacted Police Commission President Steve Soboroff asking for an invoice for “any and all expenses” stemming from the security provided at last week's event in downtown L.A.

Man Arrested in Connection With Fatal Stabbing of Transgender Woman
A 25-year-old man wanted for questioning in the apparent stabbing and arson murder of a transgender woman in a Van Nuys apartment surrendered to police Sunday and was booked on suspicion of murder, a police official said. Ezekiel Jamal Dear turned himself into the LAPD's 77th Street Station about 3:30 p.m., said station Sgt. Neil Wank. He was accompanied by a local pastor, the sergeant said.

Uber Driver Accused of Sexually Assaulting Woman Picked Up From Palms
An off-duty Uber driver is accused of sexually assaulting a woman during her ride from the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles before dropping her off, Los Angeles police said. Early Sunday morning, a woman in her 20s had a friend request an Uber for her. During the call, the Uber driver told her to stand at Palms Boulevard and Beethoven Street. Another Uber driver who was not working at the time pulled up and offered her a ride, which she accepted. The male driver then allegedly sexually assaulted her and dropped her off.

Man's body found in wash behind North Hollywood park
A man found dead in a wash behind a North Hollywood park Monday had suffered head injuries, but it was unclear if he was the victim of foul play, Los Angeles police said. Police earlier reported that the 36-year-old man had been shot, but LAPD spokeswoman Sara Faden said later that investigators determined that he had blunt force head trauma injuries. Officers were sent to the area of Moorpark Street and Laurel Canyon Boulevard about 8:45 a.m., Faden said. She said it was not clear if the man's death was accidental or involved foul play.

Son Suspected Of Killing Parents In Koreatown Murder-Suicide
The bodies of a man and his elderly parents—victims of a suspected murder-suicide—were found in a Koreatown apartment on Saturday afternoon. A manager checked in on an apartment in the 1100 block of Crenshaw Boulevard around 3:30 p.m. because of a foul odor coming from the apartment and found the three bodies inside, according to LAPD. The victims were pronounced dead at the scene.One of the victims has been identified by the coroner's office as 86-year-old Saeng Mah and the other as 54-year-old Hee Mah, according to City News Service.The woman has not been identified.

Body found behind Moorpark Park in Studio City area
The body of a man who had been shot was found today in a wash behind a park in the North Hollywood-Studio City area. Officers were sent to Moorpark Park, at the corner of Moorpark Street and Laurel Canyon Boulevard, about 8:45 a.m., said Officer Sara Faden of the Los Angeles Police Department. The name of the man, who was about 18-25 years old, was not immediately released. No arrests were reported.

Suspicious Package Found Near L.A. Mayor's Home; Bomb Squad Called
A suspicious suitcase found near the official residence of L.A.'s Mayor Eric Garcetti on Monday evening contained only clothing, police said. The suitcase was spotted just before 5 p.m. on the corner of Sixth Street and Irving Boulevard in a Windsor Square neighborhood located near Getty House, according to Officer Jack Richter with the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Office.

L.A. lawmaker 'astonished' at holdup in making city sidewalk repairs
Los Angeles leaders planned to spend $27 million on sidewalk repairs this budget year -- much more than the year before. But so far, more than halfway through the fiscal year, the city has yet to spend any of it."I'm kind of astonished to learn that we haven't spent any more today than we did as of the end of" the last budget year, City Councilman Paul Krekorian said at a Monday meeting after being told that none of the money had been used.
