Minaya's father was driving 92-year-old Celia La Torre back to their West Covina home when two street racers tore sped past a residential stop sign and into their vehicle.

LAPD Pursuit of Stolen Vehicle Suspect Ends in Officer-Involved Shooting
An armed stolen vehicle suspect was shot by police after trying to flee on foot and carjack at least two motorists on the eastbound 60 Freeway in Montebello Monday. The suspect was taken to a local hospital by ambulance. His condition remains unknown, but he is expected to survive. The pursuit began in Boyle Heights around 5 p.m. after officers noticed the gray Toyota Camry the suspect was traveling in had been reported stolen.

Harvard Heights Stabbing: Woman Killed, Husband Injured
The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating a stabbing that left a woman dead and her husband critically injured in the Harvard Heights area. Officers responded to the 1700 block of Hobart Boulevard just before 6 p.m. Sunday and found the woman's body blocking the inside doorway of the home.

Help Needed To Find Woman, 29, Missing For 5 Days
Police asked for the public's help Monday to track down a 29-year-old woman who has been missing for five days. Irina Akopyan was last seen at about 2 p.m. Feb. 4 in the 9000 block of Burnet Avenue in Panorama City, and her family is concerned that she has not been found, police said. Akopyan is described as a white woman with brown hair, green eyes, 5 feet 5 inches tall and about 115 pounds. She was last seen wearing red pants and gray sneakers.

Arrest made in death of transgender woman after O.C. silicone party
Prosecutors have filed charges against a Santa Ana resident accused of performing illegal cosmetic surgeries that resulted in the death of a transgender woman. Liborio De La Luz Ramos, 44, faces one felony count of involuntary manslaughter by an unlawful act and two felony counts of unauthorized practice of medicine.

Search continues for missing swimmer in Laguna Beach
A search is underway for an 18-year-old Nevada teen who was swept away by a large wave Sunday near Thousand Steps Beach in Laguna Beach. Lifeguards, firefighters, the U.S. Coast Guard and a boat from the Orange County Sheriff's Department will continued their search efforts Monday for the male teenager, who was last seen at 1:30 p.m. near a rocky cove.

Payroll costs for California Highway Patrol officers grew an average 11 percent per employee last year, new state data show, fueled by a mandated raise, more overtime and the end of furloughs in 2013. Meanwhile, the number of officers was down nearly 2 percent from the previous year.

Los Angeles is considering raising its minimum wage to $15 an hour, from $9 currently. The dramatic proposal is causing excitement and some anxiety. San Francisco and Seattle have already passed a $15 minimum wage (they'll rise to that level over the next few years), but what's different in LA is the number of working poor in this huge city.

Politicians, friends and newspaper editors paid tribute Monday to Daily News reporter Rick Orlov at a public memorial at Los Angeles City Hall, the only time in recent memory a reporter has been celebrated at the ornate government building. Recalling Orlov's raspy voice and signature smile, speaker and former City Controller Wendy Greuel said politicians gravitated toward the veteran reporter and the Friday after-work cocktail parties he hosted at City Hall's third floor press offices.

Ship unloading resumes at West Coast ports amid labor dispute
Dockworkers resumed unloading ships at West Coast ports Monday after employers suspended those operations over the weekend amid an ongoing labor dispute.The Pacific Maritime Assn., an employer group representing shipping companies, said it stopped the weekend unloading of ships because it didn't want to pay overtime to workers who, they allege, have deliberately slowed operations to gain leverage during contract talks. The union in Los Angeles and Long Beach has denied engaging in such a slowdown tactic.
