Hit-and-Run Alert System
It is a grim fact, but Los Angeles is known as the hit-and-run capital of the nation. Recently, hit-and-runs in Koreatown and USC have severely injured innocent citizens, causing permanent damage to the victims. Rarely does a week go by that we do not see a hit-and-run occur in Los Angeles.

Off-duty LAPD officer shot at in Santa Clarita, not injured
An off-duty Los Angeles police officer was shot at but not injured Sunday morning in Santa Clarita, authorities said. The car the officer was riding in was struck by gunfire about 10:12 a.m. near Rainbow Glen Drive and Swallow Court, said Sgt. Richard Cohen of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

LAPD is more diverse, but distrust in the community remains
The Los Angeles Police Department often is cited as an example of how recruiting nonwhite officers can improve community relations. The LAPD, once a predominantly white institution, now closely mirrors the city's demographics and is majority nonwhite — from the glass offices at headquarters to patrol cars working the beat.

UC Berkeley student goes missing near USC; police seek help finding him
A 19-year-old UC Berkeley student went missing near USC early Saturday, and authorities and family members are seeking the public's assistance in finding him. Eloi Vasquez, a college freshman who is on his university's soccer team, was last seen about 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the 600 block of West 28th Street, where he was attending a party with friends. Vasquez left the party, telling friends he was going to take a walk, and never returned, according to a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Attacker Sought After Sexual Assault in Chatsworth: LAPD
A male attacker was being sought after he sexually assaulted a female victim Friday night in Chatsworth, authorities said. The incident began about 8:30 p.m. in the 10000 block of Cozycroft Avenue, where the victim was walking alone, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a Saturday news release.

Homicides hard to solve in this South Los Angeles ZIP code deemed ‘war zone'
Policed largely by officers assigned to the Los Angeles Police Department's Newton Division, officials have sought to rebrand the area following the 1992 Rodney King riots. South Central is no longer the preferred designation, but the name change has done little to quell the decades-long turf rivalries over drug distribution networks that have taken dozens of lives.

Woman Allegedly Wielding Knife Shot Dead By Police
A woman allegedly wielding a knife was shot dead by police attending a domestic dispute. The shooting occurred at the 500 block of West Vineyard Avenue in Oxnard at around 1 a.m. Saturday, an Oxnard Police Department spokesman said.Officers were speaking to the man who had reported the incident when the 24-year-old woman allegedly advanced on them while holding a knife. She was then shot, and died at the scene.

Elderly Man in Critical Condition After Robbery Near Rosebowl
An elderly man remained in critical condition Sunday after being brutally attacked during a robbery while taking a morning walk in Pasadena a few days earlier.A passerby exercising in the area of the incident found the 87 year old lying on the ground on West Drive, north of Salvia Canyon Road, near the Rose Bowl on Friday and called 911.

Man Falls Victim to Hit-And-Run Driver After Argument
A heated argument turned violent when a man was allegedly intentionally hit by a car early Sunday morning in Riverside, officials said. Officials responded to the intersection of University Avenue and Main Street at 2:15 a.m., where a pedestrian was struck by a hit-and-run driver.

Number of deportations from Los Angeles area down, new statistics show
The number of people deported from the Los Angeles area has fallen sharply in recent years, with the biggest drop occurring in the last few months, new federal statistics show. The plunge in deportations comes as President Obama seeks controversial changes to the nation's deportation policies and local law enforcement agencies across the country roll back their cooperation with immigration agents.
