In Wake of Police Shootings, LAPD Training Program Focuses on Empathy
This exercise is part of a one-week class, the latest effort by the LAPD to train cops how to de-escalate encounters with people who may be aggressive or mentally ill. The message here: slow down and try to empathize with the person. This training session comes just 10 days after the fatal shooting of Charly “Africa” Keunang on Skid Row. The 43-year-old Cameroonian man, a robbery suspect, is seen on videotape fighting with four LAPD cops as they tried to subdue him. Police say he tried to grab one of their guns, so they fired.

15-Year-Old Girl Reported Missing In LA
Police sought the public's help Monday to locate a 15-year-old girl who has been reported missing. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Kimberly Greenberg was last seen around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Palms. Detectives described Greenberg as a Hispanic female with brown hair and brown eyes. She stands 4-foot-10 tall and weighs about 115 pounds. Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department Pacific Division at (310) 482-6334.

L.A. County may also consider minimum wage hike
Following in the footsteps of the city, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday will consider commissioning a study of the impacts of raising the minimum wage. Supervisors Sheila Kuehl and Hilda Solis will ask their colleagues to approve spending up to $95,000 to have the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation review a series of studies of the issue performed in relation to the city of Los Angeles' proposal to raise the minimum wage to $13.25 an hour by 2017 and to $15.25 an hour by 2019.
