LAPD body cameras to roll out at 3 precincts this summer

Gunman chases, kills pedestrian in Westmont
A 47-year-old man was fatally shot about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in Westmont, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The man, who has not been identified, was walking in the 10100 block of South Budlong Avenue when two men pulled up in a white vehicle, Lt. John Corina said. A gunman chased and shot the man, Corina said. The gunman returned to the vehicle, and the car sped away.

L.A. County supervisors vote 5-0 to study raising the minimum wage
The movement to substantially increase the local minimum wage won a significant boost Tuesday when the county Board of Supervisors voted to follow the city of Los Angeles in studying the idea. Until now, the campaign to raise the wage to as much $15.25 an hour has largely focused within the city of 4 million residents, prompting concerns that businesses would move to communities where wages remain lower.

New $30 million grant announced to help end L.A. veteran homelessness
The Department of Veterans Affairs announced Tuesday a $30 million award for nonprofit agencies dealing with homeless veterans in the Los Angeles area.VA Secretary Robert A. McDonald said the grant program is effective “because it allows VA staff and local homeless service providers to work together to effectively address the unique challenges that make it difficult for some veterans and their families to remain stably housed."
