LAPD looking for suspects in Exposition Park area home invasion
A homeowner was injured after two men and a woman forced their way into a house in the Exposition Park area and robbed the man's family of cash, a police sergeant said. The home invasion robbery took place at 10 p.m. Friday, in the 3700 block of Cherrywood Avenue, Los Angeles police Sgt. Carlton Brown told City News Service.

LAPD: Woman Posing As Event Planner Targeting LA-Area Party Stores With Fake Checks
The Los Angeles Police Department's Grand Theft Division is investigating after three Moroccan party stores had thousands of dollars worth of supplies stolen from by the same female suspect. Store owners say the woman gave a fake name and paid with fraudulent checks.

Man Sought After Attack at Cal State Northridge: Police
Police on Friday released a composite sketch of a man wanted in connection with a reported attack on the campus of Cal State Northridge. The unprovoked attack occurred about 12:50 p.m. Thursday in a men's restroom on the first floor of Oviatt Library, according to a statement from the university's Department of Police Services.

Anaheim police shoot, kill armed man
Anaheim police shot and killed an armed man during a confrontation Saturday morning, authorities said. The shooting occurred about 8:30 a.m. when officers confronted the man as he got out of a car they had been pursuing, said Lt. Eric Trapp. The man then produced a gun, police said.

Fresno's deputy police chief resigns amid drug dealing charges
Fresno's deputy police chief, who is facing charges that he conspired to distribute drugs, resigned Friday. Keith Foster's resignation was effective immediately, according to a statement from his attorney, Edward Marshall Hodgkins. Foster was placed on paid administrative leave after his arrest last week.

S.F. police chief: Officers should be fired for 'hateful' text messages
San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr called Friday for seven more officers who allegedly exchanged racist and homophobic text messages to be fired. “The officers responsible for the reprehensible texts should be separated from the SFPD as soon as practical," Suhr said in a statement. "The fine, right-minded men and women of the SFPD that are of the impeccable character required of a… police officer expect no less.”

Ferguson unveils racist emails referenced in Justice Department report
Local police and a city official in Ferguson, Mo., sent racially charged emails comparing minority welfare recipients to dogs and made insensitive comments about Muslims, copies of the emails released by the city show. The emails, made public on Friday, were referenced in a March report from the Justice Department that found widespread discrimination in the Ferguson police force and in court proceedings.

U.S. suspends funding for troubled L.A. County emergency system
The U.S. Commerce Department on Friday suspended funding for an increasingly problem-plagued Los Angeles County emergency communications system, noting the project is “severely behind schedule.” Federal officials ordered communications project managers to “stop all work immediately” on what would be the largest such system in the nation.

L.A. trash backlog clears as unofficial garbage strike ends
All garbage cans in the City of Los Angeles have been emptied, some several days late, after about 60 percent of the unionized garbage collectors stayed away from their job for two days in a labor dispute last week, the city said Sunday. The backlog of trash had all been hauled away late Saturday, said Bureau of Sanitation spokeswoman Tonya Durrell. “We concentrated on the black bins fist,” she told City News Service.

At his recent groundbreaking for the state's high-speed train, Gov. Jerry Brown paused while extolling the project to laud the union workers who will build it. "You've got to put something in the ground," Brown said, riffing on what drives economic growth. "You've got to get these building trades men and women doing stuff.
