Truck Driver Honored For Helping Save Life Of LAPD Officer
A humble truck driver got hero's welcome at Los Angeles City Hall Wednesday as he was honored for helping save the life of an LAPD officer. Dorian Cole received a commendation by the Los Angeles City Council for using his big rig to protect an LAPD motor officer and another driver from oncoming traffic after they crashed into each other on the 5 Freeway in Sylmar on March 24.

L.A. Police Seeking Information on Alleged Child Molester Coach
The Los Angeles Police Department's Sexually Exploited Child Unit (SECU), Juvenile Division, is requesting additional information from the public. The SECU has been involved in an investigation involving Ronnie Roman, a coach with the Los Angeles Unified School District's Youth Services Division at Cahuenga Elementary School, in the city of Los Angeles.

Burglar caught on video breaking into Harbor Gateway home
A burglar who didn't let a little rain get in his way broke into a Harbor Gateway house last week, unaware he was caught on security video. Los Angeles police detectives released the video today, hoping someone recognizes the man so they can take him to jail.

Woman in Custody Following Bomb Threat at Federal Building in Downtown L.A.
A woman who claimed to have a bomb in front of the federal building in downtown Los Angeles was taken into custody after a standoff with police, who called for the building's evacuation on Wednesday. The incident began about noon outside the building located in the 300 block of North Los Angeles Street (map) when authorities responded to a suspicious package call, according to Officer Tony Im with the Los Angeles Police Department.

Ceremony in South Whittier honors Los Angeles County's fallen peace officers
For the 46th year, family, friends and colleagues of Southern California law enforcement personnel killed in the line of duty were remembered Wednesday in the Los Angeles County Peace Officers' Memorial Ceremony. They gathered to solemnly commemorate the lives of L.A. County Sheriff's Lt. Patrick L. Libertone, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Roberto C. Sanchez, Covina Officer Jordan Corder and Pomona Officer Shaun R. Diamond and add their names to the Memorial Wall at the Sheriff's Training Academy and Regional Services Center.

Policy center links auto thefts to California prison shift
A California policy center has concluded that sending low-level felons to county jails instead of state prisons had “a very limited impact on crime,” resulting in increased auto thefts but no effect on violent offenses. The report, released this week by the nonpartisan Public Policy Institute of California, relies on crime data from the FBI for 2013 and 2012.

Omaha police officer shot and killed a day before beginning maternity leave
An Omaha police officer was killed during a shootout with a suspect Wednesday, a day before her three-month-old baby was to be released from the hospital, authorities said. The officer, Kerrie Orozco, 29, had given birth to a daughter, Olivia Ruth, in February, but the baby was premature and remained in the hospital, according to police. The baby, who turned three months old on Sunday, was expected to leave the hospital on Thursday, the same day Orozco's maternity leave was set to begin.

New York City Mayor Faces Dilemma on Size of Police Force
As New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton keeps pushing for more officers, Mayor Bill de Blasio finds himself in a delicate spot on a difficult issue. Behind-the-scenes negotiations continue on whether the police head count of about 35,000 should grow—and by how much. Mr. de Blasio has said publicly that he wants no new officers and he proposed no increase in his budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1. Nevertheless, people familiar with the talks say he seems more willing to add police this year than last.
