Thousands run to honor fallen police officers
Thousands of runners joined Boston Police officers in their annual Run to Remember. The 11th annual run, which took the 11,000 runners through downtown Boston, is held to honor fallen police officers. Groups from the NYPD and the LAPD traveled to Boston to participate. Police Commissioner William Evans, who joined the runners, said the police appreciate the support.

Man Shot by Police After Allegedly Pointing Gun at Group of People in Hollywood
A man was taken into custody Sunday morning after being shot by an LAPD officer following a confrontation with several men in a Hollywood parking lot that resulted in him pointing a gun at the group, according to police. The shooting occurred on Cherokee Street north of Hollywood Boulevard at about 2:10 a.m., according to Det. Meghan Aguilar of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Man Dies After Being Shot Multiple Times in South L.A.
A homicide investigation was underway Saturday morning after a man was fatally shot in the Vermont Square neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to police. The victim, an approximately 40-year-old man, was found with multiple gunshot wounds shortly after midnight near the intersection of Western Avenue and 52nd Street, said Det. Chris Barling of the Los Angeles Police Department.

South LA Family Get Frightening Shock When Police Chase Ends Next To Their Barbecue
Officers responding to a burglary report at a South L.A. home say they arrived to find the suspect leaving out the back. The residents had come home around 3 p.m. and noticed signs of a break-in, according to the LAPD.

Citizen ride-alongs key to policing transparency: Guest commentary
Over the months since Michael Brown was killed by Ferguson, Mo. police Officer Darren Wilson, the topic of “transparency” in policing has topped the national conversation agenda. No issue in our representative democracy is more fundamental than the interaction of government and governed. Police officers, by definition, limit individual liberty. Yet, there can be no individual liberty without the security of general order. Officers must be able to overcome resistance, both to effect order and survive. It is an equilibrium of constant tension.

Manhunt Continues Following New Orleans Police Officer's Shooting Death
A manhunt continues in New Orleans after a police officer was found shot dead in his marked patrol car Sunday. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office identified the victim Monday as James Bennett, Jr., 45. Bennett, a Housing Authority of New Orleans Police Officer since 2013, had previously worked in the sheriff's office Reserve Division - a volunteer unit that supplements regular officers.

Cleveland Police Officer Receives Not Guilty Verdicts
The verdicts for Officer Michael Brelo came on allegations of voluntary manslaughter and lesser charges, stemming from a 2012 police shooting of an unarmed couple. Brelo had fired 49 shots at the couple following a car chase. Reporter Nick Castele of member-station WCPN speaks with host Scott Simon about the ruling.

First & Spring: Will Ryu stir the pot or play ball with Wesson?
For the last two months, Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson was a reliable ally of Carolyn Ramsay, helping her as she ran in last week's election for the seat being vacated by her former boss, Councilman Tom LaBonge. Ramsay, who had described Wesson as a mentor and role model, secured the council president's endorsement right after the March primary. Wesson hosted a fundraiser for Ramsay the following month, helping her campaign pull in more than $68,000 in a single day.
