Commission got it wrong
Since August we, along with the entire Los Angeles community, have been following the investigation of the Ezell Ford officer-involved shooting and awaiting the determinations made by Chief Beck, the Inspector General and the Police Commission. In these reviews it was clear to us that what was found was that all of the DNA, all of the independent witnesses interviewed and all of the officers' statements attained supported the notion that Ford attempted to take an officer's weapon.

New Tensions Arise On Both Sides Of Ezell Ford Case
Activists and police officers are growing increasingly concerned about the outcome of the Ezell Ford investigation. Craig Lally, the president of the L.A. Police Protective League, says the Police Commission verdict in the Ford shooting death case is already causing some officers to shy away from some crime prevention tactics, such as observational stops.

Mayor Backs Beck's Efforts To Reach Out To LAPD Ranks After Commission Ruling
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti voiced his support Thursday for LAPD Chief Charlie Beck after reaching out to officers in the wake of the police commission's decision in the Ezell Ford shooting. KNX 1070's Margaret Carrero reports Beck is expected to soon decide what disciplinary action to take against an LAPD officer found by the Police Commission to have violated department policy in the fatal shooting of an unarmed, mentally ill black man.

Special Olympics torch relay passes through Echo Park and Silver Lake
Officers from the LAPD Northeast Division ran on Sunset Boulevard today as part of a torch run and relay that will eventually head to Long Beach this weekend for the Special Olympics Southern California Summer Games. Today's torch run is separate from three other relays that are crossing the country before converging in Los Angeles next month for the Special Olympics World Games. Sandy Driscoll was on hand today as officers from Northeast Division ran a 4.5-mile segment of the relay between Echo Park and Hollywood.

Suspect in Fatal Shooting of Lakewood Man Found in Car Described as Hispanic Man, 56
After four people were detained in the death of a man who was fatally shot in his vehicle in Lakewood, authorities said Thursday they had identified the suspected shooter as a 56-year-old man. The suspect, described only as Hispanic, had not been arrested, according to a brief update provided just before noon by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Homicide detectives were investigating.

Two Los Angeles Sheriff's Deputies Acquitted
A jury Thursday acquitted two Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies of perjury and conspiracy charges stemming from a 2011 drug bust at a bar in Huntington Park. During the trial, a prosecutor told jurors that the case against Robert Lindsey and Charles Rodriguez was pursued after surveillance video from Durango Bar contradicted details in Lindsey's arrest report.

Deputy Who Received Liver Transplant From Fellow Deputy: It's ‘A Miracle'
A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy who received a life-saving liver transplant expressed his gratitude Thursday to a colleague, who donated part of his own liver for the surgery. “I never thought I would have a brother at age 40. (It's) a miracle,” Deputy Jorge Castro said at a news conference at Keck Hospital of the University of Southern California.

7-Year-Old Boy Accidentally Shot Dead in Inland Empire
A boy died after being accidentally shot in Adelanto Thursday. When deputies arrived at the home on the 18000 block of Bellflower Street just before 5 p.m. family members were performing CPR on 7-year-old Daniel Cervantes, a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department spokesman said.

Detectives Seek Help In Mysterious Disappearance Of Local Music Video Producer
It's been nearly four months since the mysterious disappearance of Raymond Collins Jr., a local music video producer. On Thursday, investigators made a new push for help from the public. Detectives suspect foul play in the disappearance. "Somebody know something, and they are concealing it," said Ray Collins Sr. "We would like to have our son back."

Police arrest man suspected of shooting at Carlsbad officer
A man suspected of shooting at a Carlsbad police officer Wednesday was arrested Thursday in San Diego, police said. Cameron Avery Valentine, 27, faces charges including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, vehicle burglary and felony evading a police officer, Carlsbad police spokeswoman Jodee Sasway said.
