Man Fatally Shot By Police After Stabbing Mother's Fiancé To Death Identified
Authorities have identified a man who stabbed his mother's fiancé to death in the family's home in Sylmar before being fatally shot by police outside the residence. Jason Hendley, 29, died at a hospital after being shot by police at about 10:40 a.m. Monday in the 13600 block of Gavina Avenue, according to the coroner's office and the Los Angeles Police Department.

3 Armed Burglary Suspects Arrested In Studio City
Three armed burglary suspects who targeted two different residences in Studio City Tuesday were taken into custody following an hours-long search. Police responded to the 13000 block of Bloomfield Street at about 10:40 a.m. following the incident, and a SWAT team was later deployed. "Officers responded and observed three possible suspects abandoning a car. Officers set up containment and secured a perimeter around this area," LAPD Captain Stephen Carmona said. "During that containment, a second hot-prowl residential burglary occurred."

Standoff In Canoga Park Ends After Felony Suspect, Girlfriend Surrender
A man wanted for a parole violation and his girlfriend surrendered Tuesday after an nearly five-hour standoff in Canoga Park. Officers went to arrest Santiago Estrada, 35, who missed a court date and was also wanted for assault with a deadly weapon involving a firearm, about 1:30 p.m. before he barricaded himself in an apartment in the 6900 block of Millwood Avenue.

Gun in fatal San Francisco shooting belonged to federal agent
A Mexican national who has been deported multiple times for illegally entering the United States pleaded not guilty to a murder charge Tuesday in the shooting death of Kathryn Steinle, who was strolling on the tourist-friendly Embarcadero with her father last week when she was shot once in the back. Later Tuesday, law enforcement sources confirmed that the gun used in the shooting belonged to a federal agent, but no details were available about how the suspect may have obtained the weapon, or whether it had been lost or stolen.

Stats shed new light on how often police use body cams, Tasers
About one in three local police departments provided officers with body cameras in 2013 and the authorization of Taser guns increased more than tenfold between 2003 and 2013, according to statistics released Tuesday by the Justice Department. The data shed light on the use of police equipment as officials are examining policing tactics and adding cameras to increase transparency and to protect their officers.

An iPhone case that looks like a handgun is drawing warnings that it could be too easily mistaken for a real weapon. That has been the message for weeks from some police departments in the United States, concerned that the case could add to the uncertainty of confrontations with suspects. The cases — in black, white and pink — are made by a number of foreign manufacturers. Most appear to be imported from Asia.

Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson sought Tuesday to put to rest rumors he's launching a bid for mayor, insisting during an interview that he's not focused on his political future. “I am not running for mayor,” Wesson said during an interview with the Los Angeles News Group editorial board. “I am doing my job as the council member from the 10th District who happens to be the quarterback of the Los Angeles City Council.”

Two L.A. County supervisors seeking crackdown on wage theft
As Los Angeles County prepares to vote on a proposed minimum wage increase, two members of the Board of Supervisors moved Tuesday to curb illegal efforts to deny employees their full pay. Supervisors Hilda Solis and Mark Ridley-Thomas won support for an analysis of the county's authority to regulate wage theft locally and to enforce municipal, state and federal laws concerning the improper withholding of pay or benefits.
