Video of Gunman Stalking LAPD Puts Police On Alert
The 15-second clip, which began circulating online earlier last week, shows an unknown person sitting in a parked car behind a Los Angeles Police Department cruiser. The camera operator films the police car, moves the camera downward to reveal a handgun clutched in his hand, then resumes filming the police car and a nearby officer. The LAPD had been concerned that the video constituted a threat against the department, and warned its officers to remain vigilant. According to the Los Angeles Times, officers who usually patrol alone instead drove in pairs over the weekend.

Woman Turns Herself In After Killing Pedestrian
An 18-year-old woman wanted in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left another 18-year-old woman dead in Sherman Oaks turned herself into authorities today. Nysmuh Imann Taylor of Sylmar died about 2:15 a.m. Sunday at the scene of the collision near Moorpark Street and Matilija Avenue, where she and her boyfriend were attempting to cross the street when she was struck, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Arrested today on suspicion of felony hit-and-run was Lerone Natalia Herscu of Sherman Oaks, Officer Jack Richter of the LAPD's Media Relations Section said.

LAPD determines suspicious package did not contain bomb
Police determined Wednesday that a suspicious package on Kelton Avenue did not contain a bomb. The Los Angeles Police Department received a call around noon reporting a suspicious cardboard box, said Arren Jefferson, LAPD spokesperson. After three hours of investigation, the LAPD's bomb squad determined the package did not pose a threat.

L.A. County Supervisors choose new CEO
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Tuesday unanimously named Sachi Hamai as the county's chief executive officer. The board will begin negotiating a contract with Hamai and expects to formally appoint her and approve her salary at its meeting next Tuesday, Supervisor Michael Antonovich said. Hamai had been in the position on an interim basis since December. The board emerged from a closed-door meeting late in the evening and made the announcement.

Pension Reform Initiative Reworked
Previously, former San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed and former San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio had forged ahead with a proposal that would subject all pension increases to voter approval. But that initiative's path forward was complicated by Attorney General Kamala Harris, who is legally responsible for summarizing initiatives on the ballots used by Californians statewide. As the Sacramento Bee observed, the language used in the summaries has proven significant “because it appears on petition materials used to qualify them for the ballot, often shaping voters' first impression of an initiative's contents. Perhaps even more important, the wording affects potential contributors' willingness to underwrite a campaign.”
