Police: Victim in cop shooting threatened officers with hand gesture
A suspect who was killed by Los Angeles police in Van Nuys last weekend had not only thrown a beer bottle through the rear window of a patrol car, leading the officers inside to believe they were being shot at, but also pointed his hand at them while holding a dark object after they got out of the cruiser, police said Thursday. The shooting took place at 11:30 p.m. Saturday at Victory and Sepulveda boulevards. Police Chief Charlie Beck said earlier that two officers were inside the patrol car stopped at a red light.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired on Dec. 11, 2012, found Lorri Ann Anderson on the sidewalk in the area of Eight and Coronado streets suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at a hospital. Los Angeles Police Department investigators say a man got out of a dark- colored car and shot her, but they have no idea why.

Gov. Jerry Brown has rebooted his thinking on protecting personal digital information from police searches. Daniel Borenstein: Latest Chuck Reed pension initiatives address attorney general's past concerns
Former San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed has twice rolled out statewide pension reform initiatives.
