Chief Beck: Mother and Son ‘Responsible' for Dodger Stadium Parking Lot Assault
A post-game fight at a Dodger Stadium parking lot that left a victim hospitalized in critical condition involved a mother and the son, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said Tuesday. Beck addressed the Oct. 9 altercation, which occurred after Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the New York Mets, outside a Police Commission meeting.

LAPD unable to find man with gun believed to be holed up in Westwood apartment
Los Angeles Police officers were unable to locate a man with a gun who they believed was holed up inside a Westwood apartment, authorities said. Authorities said the man's girlfriend came home about 4 p.m. to find him inside her apartment while brandishing a firearm. A second person was inside the apartment with the man, said LAPD spokesman Matthew Ludwig. Authorities said Tuesday afternoon that they were in contact with the man. "At this stage, we are not calling it a hostage situation," Ludwig said at the time.

LAPD: Drones can "sneak up" on our helicopters
A review of FAA data shows the skies over Los Angeles are a hot spot for reports of drones flying in airspace reserved for aircraft. For LAPD Officer James Schwedler and pilot Kevin Cook, a drone strike could be catastrophic. "A drone is like trying to spot a gnat at times. It could totally sneak up on you," Schwedler says.

Police searching for Atwater Village street robbers
The LAPD has released a surveillance video as part of an effort to catch a pair of armed men responsible for recent street robberies. The video shows one of the suspects, described as a white male with blonde hair and a mustache, at a convenience store using a credit card stolen from one of the victims, according to police. The other suspect is described as an African-American male with a mustache who might be wearing an earring.

LAPD continued to misclassify serious attacks last year, audit finds
The Los Angeles Police Department continued to struggle in accurately classifying serious assaults last year, according to an audit released Tuesday. The audit comes after a Times investigation last year revealed that the department had routinely misclassified serious assaults as minor offenses that weren't counted in the city's crime rate. The new review examined one crime category: aggravated assault. Based on sampling done by auditors, officials estimate that there were actually 23% more aggravated assaults in 2014 than the LAPD originally reported.

The Long Beach Police Department (LPBD) received a $340,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) today, the department announced Tuesday. A release issued Tuesday evening stated the LBPD will allocate the funding for improving the road and enhancing quality of life through enforcement and education. “We're grateful to the Office of Traffic Safety for awarding us this grant,” said LBPD Chief Robert Luna in a statement. “The grant will afford us the opportunity to continue our ongoing enforcement and education efforts to improve roadway safety for everyone.”

Battling bureaucracy: L.A. unveils app for city permits, inspections
Setting information on city building permits and requesting inspections may now be done with a Smartphone app, Los Angeles officials announced Tuesday. Tge LADBS Go app, released by the Los Angeles Building and Safety Department for iOS and Android devices, gives customers another way to access services without waiting in lines, officials said. The app will also allow users to report code violations, find Development Services Centers, check customer counter wait times and scan permit barcodes.
