Gunshot Wounds Man During Altercation In Medical Marijuana Dispensary
A man was shot and wounded during a confrontation in the backroom of a medical marijuana collective Tuesday. It happened early afternoon at the House of Buds on the ground floor of a mixed use building on Western Avenue near 83rd Street. Hearing the gunshot, patrons and employees fled onto the sidewalk. "We're looking into that right now," said Sgt. Heidi Stoecklein of LAPD's 77th Division. Also being determined was who fired the shot.

West Adams Motel A Hotbed For Crime Neighbors Say; Protesters Demand Change
People living near a West Adams motel say it's a magnet for crime, and on Tuesday they took their complaints to Los Angeles City Hall. The battle lines encircle the Adams Garden Inn. Neighbors say it's a hotbed for crime. "I'm actually kind of scared to even be standing here right now," said M'Ma Syrai Tabu. While the owner has taken some measures to improve security, LAPD vice detectives say prostitution continues unabated. On Tuesday, the committee voted to uphold the city's demand, imposing more stringent conditions for the motel. Language in the code may have to change to comply with the Supreme Court decision. Shutting it down, though, was not on the table to the relief of the tenants.

Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Vehicle In North Hollywood
A pedestrian was killed Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle in North Hollywood. Just after 12:30 a.m., a Caucasian man was struck by a vehicle as he crossed Lankershim Boulevard near Kittridge Street in a cross walk, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Officers said the driver stopped at the scene to assist the victim.

How Black Lives Matter became a thorn in the side of L.A. leaders
Over the last year, the Black Lives Matter movement have emerged as a vocal and controversial force in Los Angeles police politics. The group took part in several large protest marches, some of which blocked traffic and in a few cases had demonstrators bringing freeway traffic to a standstill. Those mass protests have faded. In January, the movement camped peacefully outside Los Angeles police headquarters downtown, calling their protest Occupy LAPD. They were evicted, and two activists were arrested as they tried to take a letter to LAPD Chief Charlie Beck.

Council committee votes to exempt retired cops from L.A. ammunition law
The L.A. rules already exempt police and military on active duty, licensed firearm dealers and several other categories of gun owners. The Los Angeles Police Protective League said it was important for retired and reserve officers to be exempt as well so that they could face down threats to public safety. Reserve officers “are highly trained people who go out there and put the same uniform on, drive in the same police cars, and run into the same situations,” the protective league's director, Peter Repovich, said. In the face of gun violence, Repovich added, “there's nothing better than to have somebody pop up that they wouldn't think was necessarily armed, ready to go and eliminate the threat.”

LA City Council Considers Motion To Keep Firearms Stored Safely Within Homes
The Los Angeles City Council considered a motion Tuesday aimed at keeping firearms stored safely within homes and out of the reach of children. Under the proposed bill, handguns must be disabled, locked in a container, placed within the firearm owner's reach or kept on the person.

Taxpayers may have to ante up more because CalPERS may risk less
Mostly because of rising pension costs, Long Beach says it faces an estimated $7.5-million budget gap next year. Officials already are outlining cuts across the city, including million-dollar reductions in the police and fire departments. Now a plan considered Tuesday by the California Public Employees' Retirement System could raise those pension costs even higher, continuing to erode government services in Long Beach and in cities across the state.
