In response to Quentin Tarantino's participation in an anti-police rally, Craig Lally, president of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, released the following statement on behalf of the League: “We fully support constructive dialogue about how police interact with citizens. But there is no place for inflammatory rhetoric that makes police officers even bigger targets than we already are. Film director Quentin Tarantino took irresponsibility to a new and completely unacceptable level this past weekend by referring to police as murderers during an anti-police march in New York."

Motorist Armed With Knife Hospitalized After LAPD Shooting in University Park, Near USC
A motorist was shot and wounded by Los Angeles police several blocks from USC late Tuesday afternoon during an “altercation” following a traffic stop, according to the LAPD. Two officers were conducting a traffic stop on Magnolia Avenue near West 27th Street at 4:42 p.m. when the sole occupant got out of his vehicle armed with a knife, according to Detective Meghan Aguilar with the Los Angeles Police Department.

1 Injured After Vehicle Involved in Shooting Crashes
A man was wounded Tuesday night after his vehicle crashed during a shooting near Arlington Heights, police said. The crash was reported around 11 p.m. near the intersection of Arlington Avenue and Venice Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Police reponded to the scene and found a man suffering from several gunshot wounds, according to the LAPD.

Drone knocks out power to hundreds of West Hollywood residents
Authorities are looking for the pilot of a drone that flew into power lines Monday in West Hollywood and knocked out service to hundreds of Southern California Edison customers, officials said. Witnesses reported seeing a drone buzz into the wires lining Larrabee Street and Sunset Boulevard about 1:15 p.m. knocking one to the ground, said Lt. Edward Ramirez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Ambushes of police are rising again at a difficult time for law enforcement
The number of ambushes of police officers has been creeping back up in recent years, creating concern among law enforcement officials at a time when relations between police and the communities they serve are particularly fraught. The number of surprise assaults on police rose to about 250 incidents per year between 2008 and 2013, up from about 200 per year during the previous 10-year period, according to a Justice Department study released Tuesday. Those figures were still far lower than in the 1990s, when ambushes peaked one year above 500.

The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously Monday to require handguns to be stored in locked containers or disabled with a trigger lock as a safeguard against the weapons falling into the hands of children. Councilman Paul Krekorian, who authored the measure, said he wants to prevent children or others from unintentionally harming themselves or others with the weapons.

He is scheduled to be in the nation's capital until Friday.

Mayor Eric Garcetti spoke at a Toluca Lake pumpkin patch Tuesday morning. He kept the discussion light-hearted at times on an otherwise serious topic. "Whether you're driving a car or whether you're rushing off to your Halloween party and don't see kids that are there, it's a night that you have to be extra, extra careful," he said.
