Quentin Tarantino, take two
Quentin Tarantino says his recent anti-cop rant was misunderstood, but he stands by what he said. And he won't take back his outrageous and dangerous slur against police officers as “murderers.” According to the Los Angeles Times, Tarantino, whose films are well-known for their often violent content, was “really happy” to join an anti-police demonstration in New York, while flags flew at half-staff for an NYPD officer who had recently been killed in the line of duty while he chased an armed career criminal. But any misunderstanding, to him, is on us.

Man found dead in Debs Park
The body of a 62-year-old man was found in Debs Park near Monterey Road after he apparently died from natural causes, officials today. The man's death is not connected to last week's double murder of Gabriela Calzada and Briana Gallegos, whose bodies were found in a different section of the park near the Rose Hills section of El Sereno, said said Sgt. Michael Morriseau with the LAPD Hollenbeck Division. “It's totally unrelated to the homicides.”

Los Angeles may be missing out on millions in fees from developers, audit finds
The city of Los Angeles may have missed out on tens of millions of dollars because it doesn't have a centralized system to charge developers for improvements the city has to make near their project sites, according to a new audit. Controller Ron Galperin found Los Angeles took in $4.9 million in development impact fees in fiscal year 2013-14. With $5.3 billion in permitted construction that year, the city could have potentially taken in $15 million to $91 million in such fees, according to the controller's findings. That conclusion was reached, in part, thanks to a 2011 study that found the city could be entitled to as much as $112 million a year in fees from developers.

Unintended consequences of Prop. 47 pose challenge for criminal justice system
One year after voters approved the landmark ballot measure, Proposition 47 has dramatically altered California's criminal justice landscape. The proposition, which downgraded drug possession and some theft crimes to misdemeanors, made good on its pledge to reduce prison and jail populations by thousands of inmates. Tens of thousands more people with older felony convictions have been able to wipe their records clean, giving them the chance to qualify for new jobs and other benefits.
