Funeral for Downey Police Officer Ricardo Galvez
Mourners bid their final goodbyes Monday at a funeral service for slain Downey Police Officer Ricardo “Ricky” Galvez at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles. Galvez, 29, was killed the night of Nov. 18. He was sitting in his BMW in a parking lot next to Downey police headquarters when two people walked up and fatally shot him, investigators said. He is the first officer to be gunned down in Downey Police Department history.

Surveillance Video Shows Man Who Beat Woman In Highland Park In Rape Attempt
Police have released surveillance video of a man who brutally beat a woman in a rape attempt on York Boulevard in Highland Park on Thanksgiving day. LAPD Officer Drake Madison tells LAist that detectives are still actively working on finding the man who attacked the woman last Thursday at 6:30 p.m. near York Boulevard and Toledo Street. Authorities released the video in hopes that it will help lead to the arrest of the suspect.

Echo Park shooting victim identified
The man who suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head Sunday night has been identified as 19-year-old Oscar Sandoval, Jr. according to the L.A. County coroner. The victim was shot at approximately 10:15 p.m. in the 1300 block of Allesandro Street near Montana Street. Police received reports of between six to eight shots being fired. No suspects are in custody and no motive has been determined, said Lisa Governo, a homicide detective with the LAPD Northeast Division. The shooting may be gang related but that is not certain, she said. “We are trying to find out more about the victim.”

LAPD Searching For Missing Hollywood Producer
Los Angeles police are searching for a Hollywood producer who has not been seen since before Thanksgiving. The family of 27-year-old Eric Kohler said he was last seen leaving work in Gardena on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Friends said Kohler then missed a meeting for an upcoming project. His family rushed down from Oakley, California after learning of his disappearance. Kohler was last seen driving a 2015 Range Rover Evoque with black rims and a small dent on the driver's side.

Kidnapped Teen Sexually Assaulted, Held Against Will 2 Days, LAPD Says
A teenage girl reported she was kidnapped, held against her will and sexually assaulted in South Los Angeles. Los Angeles police said they responded to 700 West Imperial Highway after receiving a call from a 15-year-old girl missing from the Yucaipa area at about 5 p.m. The teen reported to police she met a man at a fast food restaurant near the intersection of Avalon and Century boulevards on Saturday. Police said the teen stated she believed something was slipped in her drink.

Did Prop. 47 cause state crime boost?
That well-known phrase is worth remembering as Californians analyze the results of Proposition 47, a statewide initiative passed last year that has led to the release from prison and jails of 13,000 offenders. Mainly, it reduced the punishment for a handful of drug and property crimes by reclassifying them from felonies to misdemeanors.

Public pension funds reconsider risky investments
Overseers of government pension funds are taking a closer look at the fees they're paying to hedge funds, private equity investors, real estate funds and other so-called "alternative" investments -- and many of them don't like what they are seeing. The California Public Employees Retirement System, the largest U.S. public employee pension fund, recently disclosed it has paid these investment advisers $3.4 billion since 1990 and intends to sever ties with the worst performers to reduce the outflow of fees.
