LAPD spokesman Andrew Smith is offered police chief's post in Wisconsin
Los Angeles police Cmdr. Andrew Smith, a 27-year department veteran who spent the last five as the LAPD's top spokesman, has been offered a new job: police chief of Green Bay, Wisc. The Green Bay Police and Fire Commission announced Tuesday that Smith has been offered the position -- a day after meeting with him and two other finalists. One of the candidates was a Green Bay captain, the other an acting chief in a small Wisconsin town.

LAPD Officer Found Guilty of Attempting to Commit Lewd Act With 12-Year-Old Girl, Indecent Exposure
A Los Angeles Police Department officer was found guilty Tuesday of attempting to commit a lewd act with a 12-year-old girl, lewd conduct and multiple counts of indecent exposure in Huntington Beach. Ryan Eric Galliher, 33, was employed as an LAPD officer at the time of the crimes, which began on Feb. 27, 2014, when Galliher exposed himself to the 12-year-old girl in the Bolsa Chica wetlands area and asked her to touch his penis, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office stated in a news release.

Teen Alleging Sexual Assault in South LA Changes Story, Police Say
Police were investigating conflicting versions of what happened to a 15-year-old girl who claimed she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted after she met a man at a Jack in the Box in South Los Angeles. The girl ran away from her home in Yucaipa and met the man at a Jack in the Box near the intersection of S. Figueroa Street and Imperial Highway on Monday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Search Continues For Police Impersonator In Hollywood
Police sought the public's help Wednesday to locate a man suspected of impersonating an officer and assaulting at least two women in Hollywood. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the suspect assaulted the women after he showed them a fake police badge. The first assault, which was captured on surveillance video, took place on Nov. 24 on DeLongpre Avenue. The man approached the victim and asked to search her.

Two Men Tied Up, Assaulted During Home Invasion Robbery in Mar Vista
Two men were tied up and and one of them were assaulted early Wednesday morning during a home invasion robbery in the Mar Vista area, police said. The robbery was reported around 2:30 a.m. in the 3500 block of Centinnela Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Three masked men armed with a crow bar and sledgehammer forced their way into the home. The men then tied duct tape on the victims, according to the LAPD.

L.A. County Sheriff Jim McDonnell reflects on his first year in office
A year ago, Jim McDonnell took charge of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, promising to reform an agency that had been through a series of scandals and criminal indictments. In a brief anniversary ceremony outside the Hall of Justice on Tuesday morning, McDonnell said the department is leaving the problems of the past behind.

Prop. 47

LA County to help some reduce felony convictions under Prop 47
Los Angeles County will take steps to help residents who qualify get certain felony convictions reduced to misdemeanors under Proposition 47. The Board of Supervisors decided Tuesday to collect data on the estimated 690,000 people in Los Angeles County who qualify under the ballot initiative approved by voters in 2014. The board also agreed to establish a task force to connect those people with jobs, job training and mental health and substance abuse treatment, as well as to investigate whether the measure has saved the county money.
