Woman Suspected Of Crashing Into Taco Stand Had Blood-Alcohol Level Double Legal Limit, Police Allege
A 34-year-woman suspected of crashing her sedan into a popular taco stand in Boyle Heights had a blood-alcohol level that was twice the legal limit, police allege. The deadly crash at 4th and Clarence streets Sunday night claimed the life of a man who was in his 50s. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Customers returned to the corner where the taco stand used to be to lay flowers and candles, and pay their respects. “Instead of going home, I wanted to come over here and see for myself because I could not believe it,” said Customer Betty Estrada, who would drive from Whittier just for the tacos.

Man, Woman Arrested Following High-Speed Pursuit In LA
A man and a woman were arrested Tuesday after leading officers on a high-speed pursuit through Los Angeles County. The chase began around 3:30 a.m. on the northbound 14 Freeway after the male driver ran several red lights, according to California Highway Patrol officers. About an hour and a half, the vehicle stopped on the southbound 405 freeway at Valley Vista Boulevard. The driver exited the vehicle and surrendered to police. Several minutes later, SKY2 captured a female passenger also surrendering to authorities on the freeway.

Westlake Neighbors Targeted by Mail Thieves
Residents of a Los Angeles apartment building say they are being targeted by mail thieves — including one occasion when correspondence was stolen while neighbors were away reporting prior thefts to police. Renters in the City View Lofts in Westlake, just west of downtown Los Angeles, say the thefts have taken place in the mornings and afternoons. The stolen items include checks and packages. One neighbor provided video taken on four different occasions in the past six weeks of what appears to be young men, sometimes alone and sometimes in groups of up to three, stealing mail between 5 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Crackdown on Valets Who Hog Your Parking Spots
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is vowing to get tough on valet parking companies operating illegally without permits and who are taking metered parking spots meant for the public rather than using lots as required by the city. “When they break the law, they're going to have to actually pay for it,” Garcetti told NBC4, when questioned about the city's lax enforcement of the current valet ordinance (which Garcetti sponsored in 2013). Last month, an NBC4 I-Team undercover investigation exposed how some valets were parking cars at meters, in loading zones, even in red zones—much cheaper for the companies than renting space in lots.

Woman Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run Crash in Pico Rivera
Investigators were searching for a hit-and-run driver early Tuesday morning after a woman was fatally struck by a vehicle in Pico Rivera, authorities said. The crash was reported around 4:23 a.m in the 9100 block of Whittier Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities did not immediately have a description of the vehicle or the driver. Whittier Boulevard at Lindsey Avenue was closed to traffic until further notice.

15-Year-Old Boy Shot To Death In South Los Angeles
A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed in South Los Angeles. His death was one of two fatal shootings in the same area. Sheriff's officials said the teen was standing on the 1300 block of 92nd Street when he was gunned down around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Around the same time, authorities received a call about another shooting just a mile away at South Vermont and West 105th Street. A 23-year old-man was shot in the head and killed.

There's sex of sorts even amid death in the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office. A 46-year-old man who has worked for the Los Angeles County coroner's office for nearly 10 years had been accused by a co-worker of sending her obscene images, and he pleaded no contest Monday to three counts of harassment by phone or other electronic communications. Coroner's Lt. Ryan Hays was immediately sentenced to three months summary probation on the misdemeanor counts. The judge also issued a stay-away order requiring Hays to keep at least 100 yards away from the co-worker.

Many Americans buy guns to protect their families and homes from criminals, but Redlands police Monday were urging people to remember that the weapons themselves can put a residence on a burglar's radar. Over the weekend, a thief broke into a home on Walnut Avenue and stole a number of weapons, including an AR-15 assault rifle. Redlands police are still looking for a suspect. The Department of Justice says more than 232,000 guns are stolen on average every year in the United States. Most are never recovered, and many end up being used in crimes.

A Redding woman has been arrested again…and again…and again, the most recent being her 41st. It has people in the community and police questioning if our current justice system is working. With this latest arrest of repeat offender Christina Burke, people in the community are asking the questions, is are justice system working and are criminals learning their lesson? Forty-one arrests in total, with nine of them just this year, police believe the chances are that she will keep committing crimes. “We have a problem with overcrowding at the Shasta County Jail,” said Redding Police Corporal Brian Cole. “I think everyone's aware of that. The jail just does not have the capacity to keep low level offenders for long periods of time. People like Christina Burke who are committing a lot of property crimes, breaking into vehicles, stealing vehicles, stealing credit cards are being released much quicker because more violent criminals are being held in custody.”

The video praised the Orlando shooter using a combination of news reels, screen shots from newspaper articles, and speeches from various men in a mix of a languages. KPIX 5 reports that ISIS says “Arise, o Muslims and kill the unbelievers in their own homes” when the shot of the Golden Gate Bridge appears.
