LAPD Takes Steps to Ensure Officer Safety After Fatal Police Shootings LAPD Chief Charlie Beck detailed efforts to ensure officer safety in the wake of shootings of police officers in Baton Rouge, Dallas and elsewhere.  But the Los Angeles Police Protective League, stated much more needs to be done.  “The assassination of 8 law enforcement officers over the past 11-days underscores the dire need for credible long term solutions to keep police officers safe, not more political rhetoric and short term band aids. We need an immediate increase to baseline patrol staffing, a revamping of our broken workers' compensation system to get more cops on the street, and an end to police officers performing civilian work, enough talk, we need action."

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announces Police Protection Act Governor Greg Abbott today announced an effort to strengthen penalties for crimes committed against law enforcement officers – the Police Protection Act. “At a time when law enforcement officers increasingly come under assault simply because of the job they hold, Texas must send a resolute message that the State will stand by the men and women who serve and protect our communities,” said Governor Abbott. The proposal is punctuated by making it a hate crime for anyone to commit a crime against a law enforcement officer out of bias against the police.

Judge rejects ex-L.A. They'll probably renegotiate a new plea, or Baca could risk indictment and trial.
