Suspect in fatal shooting of NC cop still at large
Shelby Police are still actively searching for 23-year-old Irving Lucien Fenner Jr., who is suspected of shooting Officer Tim Brackeen. Brackeen, who was shot in the chest while searching for Fenner early Saturday morning, died Monday morning around 11:40 a.m. Law enforcement from Shelby, the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office, State Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Marshals, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and multiple other agencies have been chasing leads since Brackeen was shot, Chief Jeff Ledford said.

Two Retired Cops Help Apprehend Pursuit Suspect On Golf Course
Two retired police officers out for a round of golf Monday in Fountain Valley helped apprehend a pursuit suspect who tried to evade authorities on the links. The two retired officers — one formerly with the LAPD, the other formerly with the Santa Monica Police Department — were out for a round at Miles Square Golf Course around 12 p.m. when they saw the suspect driveacross the course in a Jeep Cherokee. They immediately dropped their clubs to help chase him down.

Outrage, questions after 9/11 memorial vandalized at Occidental College
Nearly 3,000 flags planted around Occidental College to remember the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks were vandalized over the weekend, provoking outrage and questions on the Eagle Rock campus and beyond. The incident prompted a flurry of statements by student groups, as well as a pledge by university administrators to investigate the incident.

LA Police Commission changes again: Mayor's ex-aide added
Mayor Eric Garcetti announced Monday that Loyola Law School professor Kathleen Kim will step down from the Los Angeles Police Commission after three years, and he nominated the president of Liberty Hill Foundation — a prominent funder of social justice causes — to fill the position. Goldsmith is a former staffer to Garcetti, working four years in his City Council office, before she became executive director of the affordable housing development agency PATH Ventures, then the president of Liberty Hill. Goldsmith credited the Black Lives Matter movement for pushing the country's attention onto the sometimes frayed relationships between police and residents, saying that helped create an "incredible opportunity" for change. "It's why I want to serve on the Police Commission,” she said. “There's an opportunity now to make a difference.”

Suspect Leads Police on Aggressive Chase Near Downtown LA
A suspect led police on a brief yet aggressive chase in downtown Los Angeles near the University of Southern California Monday night. Los Angeles police responded to the 3600 block of Stocker Street, near Leimert Park, at about 8:35 p.m. after a report of a stolen car, authorities said. AIR7 HD spotted the Chevrolet Camaro traveling at high speeds near the college campus in Exposition Park.

Police seek other possible victims of revenge porn suspect
Police on Monday sought other possible victims of a Reseda man charged with distributing "revenge porn.'' Sergio Ortiz, 32, was arrested Sept. 1 by detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's West Valley Division Sex Crimes Unit, and was released six days later on bail. The LAPD, which released a statement today asking for help in locating additional potential victims, allege Ortiz uploaded "a video of himself and the victim having sexual intercourse onto an online pornographic website.''

Police Pursue Identity Theft Suspect
A morning rush hour pursuit of a suspected reckless driver ended in a collision with another vehicle after the pursued driver allegedly ran a red light in Boyle Heights, authorities said. The collision occurred just east of the First Street Bridge over the Los Angeles River at Mission Road.

Authorities Search for Victims After North Hollywood Massage Therapist Charged With Sexual Assault
Detectives are searching for potential additional victims after a massage therapist working out of a North Hollywood gym was charged Monday with assaulting one of his clients, the district attorney said. Burbank resident Daniel Holbert is accused to assaulting the woman during a session at her Santa Clarita home, Deputy District Attorney Emily Cole said. He faces one felony count of sexual penetration by a foreign object by fraudulent representation.

Two Men Plead Guilty to Stalking After Allegedly Soliciting Man to Rape West Hollywood Esthetician; 1 Convicted in 2009 ‘Bling Ring' Burglary
Two men, including one who was previously convicted in the ‘Bling Ring' burglary case, pleaded guilty on Monday after being charged with stalking a West Hollywood esthetician and soliciting a man to rape her. Nicholas Prugo, 25, and Edward Feinstein, 32, pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of stalking after Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Michael Tynan dismissed a solicitation for rape felony charge due to insufficient evidence.

Why certain details were omitted from official report on Dec. 2 San Bernardino terror attack
Law enforcement officials on Monday said reports of three San Bernardino County employees rushing gunman Syed Rizwan Farook during the deadly Dec. 2 terrorist attack could not be corroborated, which is why that information was excluded from the official after-action report on the mass shooting released Friday. The U.S. Department of Justice released its 162-page report, “Bringing Calm to Chaos,” on Friday, hours after two news organizations published stories based on an earlier draft of the report leaked to those organizations.

Killer demands no defense to death penalty: Judge says OK
A convicted killer who, from his jail cell, arranged the murder of a witness against him in a robbery case, told a judge Monday he doesn't want his attorneys to actively defend him against the death penalty. The judge then agreed, and told the defendant's attorneys they would not be allowed to put on much of their case in battling a death sentence.

LA County considers raising marriage license fees to pay for domestic violence programs
Saying “I do,” may cost more soon for those who want to tie the knot in Los Angeles County, but two supervisors say the goal is to use the increase in fees for programs for homeless women who have escaped domestic violence. Supervisors Sheila Kuehl and Don Knabe will introduce a motion Tuesday to ask the county's Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk's office to look into an increase in marriage license fees. That increase will then be allocated to the Domestic Violence Special Fund to go toward shelter-based programs.

City officials hold town hall meeting on homelessness in Los Angeles
A town hall meeting focused on the homelessness problem in the city of Los Angeles was held Monday night in Canoga Park. Over the past year, officials say homelessness has gone up 11 percent throughout the city. Councilmember Bob Blumenfield gathered a panel of experts to help break down the complex issue.

Los Angeles City Hall leaders urged voters Monday to support a tax measure that would fund housing for the homeless, ramping up their efforts to campaign for a November ballot initiative that's being touted as key to helping people living on the city's streets. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, City Council President Herb Wesson and several other city councilmembers gathered at an affordable housing complex near Skid Row to rally for Proposition HHH, which will appear on the Nov. 8 ballot.
