LA Rams to reimburse Los Angeles for police, fire services after lawsuit
Ending weeks of negotiations over who should pay for security costs at downtown Los Angeles Rams games, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announced Tuesday the football team will pick up the tab. Police, fire, and other city expenses incurred at Rams games at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum will be paid for by the team, the mayor's office said. It's expected to cost the Rams about $350,000 per game for city services, but that figure will fluctuate depending on crowd size and activity. In a statement Tuesday, the police union said the deal comes amid rising crime, highlighting the need for officers to patrol neighborhoods, not a football game. The union also called on USC, which it accuses of not paying for police officers at university football games at the Coliseum, to begin ponying up.
