Police Look for Suspects Who Attacked CHP Officer in Fresno
Fresno Police are still trying to track down the suspects who attacked a CHP officer in his car. "In all the time I've been in this department, 37 years, I've never heard of anything like this happening," Dyer said. "Extremely brazen." The Fresno Police Department is using cell phone video to try to ID the people who attacked a CHP patrol vehicle as an officer sat inside. The group caused $12,000 worth of damage as a result of several broken windows and large dents.

Union: LAPD commission wants cops to run from shootings
The Los Angeles Police Protective League is accusing the Los Angeles Police Commission of telling officers to run away, not engage, if they are approached by an armed suspect. The union wrote a blog post criticizing the civilian oversight board's report last week that said an LAPD officer was at fault for using deadly force on a female suspect armed with a large knife. According to the publication, the armed suspect was charging at officers, ignoring commands, and swinging the knife from side to side. She went from 70 feet to 5 feet away from the officers when the first officer decided to shoot.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Injured in Crash Near 91 Freeway in Long Beach
A Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy was injured in a crash near the 91 Freeway in Long Beach early Tuesday, officials said. The crash was reported about 12:15 a.m. near the Paramount exit of the freeway, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Ernest Ferreras. Two vehicles were involved and the deputy was taken to a hospital in unknown condition, Ferreras said. The deputy, who works at the Lakewood station, was conscious when he was transported.

14-Year-Old Boy Reported Missing In Panorama City
Police sought the public's help Monday to locate a 14-year-old boy who has been reported missing in Panorama City. According to police, Rene Pedro-Perez was last seen around 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the 9400 block of Van Nuys Boulevard. His family says they're extremely concerned for his welfare.

Suspect sought in stabbing of 2 on Metro bus in S. LA
Authorities are looking Tuesday for a man who stabbed two people on a Metro bus in South Los Angeles. The incident was reported at 8:56 p.m. Monday in the area of Figueroa Street and East Imperial Highway. Witnesses said the suspect stabbed two victims aboard the bus and then exited at the Harbor Station, where he took off running, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Transit Services Bureau.

Ex-LAPD sergeant defends himself against ethics charge over controversial stop of 'Django Unchained' actress
The long-running saga involving a Los Angeles police sergeant and an actress from “Django Unchained” wound its way into a downtown courtroom Monday, where a judge heard arguments over whether that sergeant violated city ethics rules by leaking a recording of the controversial stop to the media. Parker's attorney, Larry Hanna, insisted that the tape wasn't confidential and that his client was being unfairly targeted for defending himself. Hanna pointed to other LAPD officers who aired similar recordings in small claims court or on national television — including “Judge Judy” — without being punished.

Driver Involved in South L.A. Bus Stop Crash That Critically Injured 3 Runs From Scene
The driver of a vehicle involved in a crash that critically injured three people standing at a South Los Angeles bus stop ran away from the scene Monday night, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The crash was reported about 7 p.m. in the 440 block of West 54th Street in the Vermont Square area of South Los Angeles.

2 Men Who Were Shot To Be Questioned About Home Invasion Robbery In Northridge
Two men hospitalized with gunshot wounds will have to answer questions Monday about their roles in a home invasion robbery in Northridge, Los Angeles police said. Officers responded to a home in the 9800 block of Zelzah Avenue, near Lassen Street, just after 8 a.m. Sunday and found two people suffering from gunshot wounds, according to LAPD spokeswoman Officer Norma Eisenman.

LA's Most Wanted: Murder of Héctor Urías
Héctor Urías was a world famous builder of racing cars, particularly dragsters. His shop on Santa Anita Avenue was in the heart of El Monte. He was found dead there, in his office, at about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2010. Investigators believe Urías was murdered the night before, sometime between 7:30 and 9 p.m.

A 35-year-old Glendale drug dealer was sentenced Monday to more than a year behind bars for his role in an organization that peddled synthetic marijuana — commonly referred to as “spice” — in downtown's Skid Row district. His 66-year-old father was also indicted and is a fugitive believed to be in Pakistan, prosecutors said.

LAPD Investigates Rape Claims Against Knicks' Derrick Rose
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed it is investigating sexual abuse allegations involving New York Knicks guard Derrick Rose, according to a court filing obtained Monday. In a letter lodged in Los Angeles federal court Sunday as part of a lawsuit against Rose, LAPD Detective Nadine Hernandez wrote that it was a "misconception'' that the department "does not have a current criminal investigation'' pending that names the basketball star and two other men.

Murdering mom try? Adult son to court for attempted killing in Boyle Heights
A 26-year-old man accused of stabbing his mother in their Boyle Heights home was ordered Monday to stand trial on an attempted murder charge. Angel Hernandez, who is being held on more than $1 million bail, is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 13. The stabbing occurred about 12:10 a.m. Feb. 22 in the 3700 block of Lee Street, where the victim lived with her son. “The mother was upset with her son for an incident that occurred earlier in the day,” according to a statement issued by the Los Angeles Police Department when Hernandez was arrested.

A man convicted of conspiring to help Islamic State militants after he was caught as he attempted to board a plane to the Middle East was sentenced to 30 years in prison Monday. U.S. District Judge David O. Carter said Nader Elhuzayel's repeated calls for martyrdom in his communications made him “especially dangerous.”

Why Backpage.com escort ads continue — in spite of law enforcement objections
Five years after the National Association of Attorneys General urged classified advertisement website Backpage.com to remove its “escort” listings, law enforcement officials appear no closer to realizing their goal of eliminating what they consider thinly disguised solicitations for prostitution. Since the letter signed by all 50 attorneys general was sent to Backpage, there have been some successes in prosecuting the pimps that place the ads, which dance around the edges of the law by withholding most mentions of price for “candy,” “massages,” and “service.”

Synthetic Drug Spice Banned in California Following Rash of Overdoses on Skid Row
Gov. Jerry Brown on Sunday signed legislation that outlaws the possession of the synthetic drug “spice” after law enforcement officials and paramedics tended to dozens of overdoses on Skid Row in Los Angeles. Senate Bill 139, introduced by Sen. Cathleen Galgiani (D-Stockton) and sponsored by the California Police Chiefs Assn., adds a number of specified drugs and chemicals to the existing list of prohibited synthetic cannabinoids.

LA County, City of Los Angeles Join White House ‘Smart Cities' Initiative
The city and county of Los Angeles will take part in programs announced by the White House Monday to address climate change, transportation, public safety and improved public services. According to the White House, $80 million in federal funds will be spent on programs in its Smart Cities Initiative. “If we can re-conceive of our government so that the interactions and the interplay between private sector, nonprofits and government are opened up, and we use technology, data, social media in order to join forces around problems, then there's no problem that we face in this country that is not soluble,” President Barack Obama said in a statement.
