A Georgia sheriff says whoever drove by the home of one of his deputies and riddled it with bullets likely knew a law officer lived there because his marked patrol car was parked in the driveway. Douglas County Sheriff Phil Miller said one of the bullets landed in a bed inside the home.

LAPD: Kidnap suspect taken into custody
A 29-year-old man suspected of kidnapping a woman today from a South Los Angeles convenience store was in custody tonight after a short vehicle chase that ended in North Hollywood. Officers took Jose Eduardo Gaxiola Caro into custody around 9:30 p.m. following a vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash, according to Officer Liliana Preciado of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Division. Officers used a Taser to get Caro into custody, she said. The details of the crash were not immediately available.

Suspect holds knife to victim's throat prompting police to shoot
A suspect who had held a knife to a victim's throat on Tuesday was shot by an officer and wounded Wednesday when he ran from police who had taken him to County-USC Medical Center for an examination and then carjacked an SUV. No officers were injured in the shooting, which occurred about 3:30 p.m. in the area of Zonal Avenue and Cummings Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. After being shot, the suspect was again taken to a hospital, where he was in stable condition, LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar told reporters at the scene.

Suspect Caught On Camera Punching Woman Outside Venice Store
Surveillance video outside of a store caught a male suspect punching a woman and knocking her to the ground in Venice. The incident happened Saturday around 7:30 p.m. on Windward Avenue. Surveillance cameras show the suspect suddenly punching the woman as passersby tried stopping him. "The victim and the suspect had some type of verbal argument inside of a store. When the victim exited, the suspect exited, the suspect punched the victim, victim went down," Los Angeles police Officer Alicia Elliott said.

Police Cruiser Carjacker Killed in Crash
A man who attempted to steal a police cruiser was killed when he crashed the vehicle after struggling with an officer who stopped to provide help on a freeway northeast of downtown Los Angeles. The South Pasadena officer stopped near the eastbound 10 Freeway transition to the 110 Freeway after he noticed a motorcycle on the ground. When he got out to look for the motorcyclist, a man got into his police cruiser, according to authorities.

Brown signs bill requiring breathalyzers in DUI offenders' cars
Many Californians convicted of driving under the influence will have to temporarily install breathalyzers in their vehicles to get their driver's licenses back after Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation Wednesday expanding a pilot program. Senate Bill 1046 is the result of a four-year effort by Sen. Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo, to get a statewide policy on “ignition interlock devices,” which prevent a car from starting if the driver's blood alcohol content is above the legal limit.
