Help stop parole of cop killer Voltaire Williams
We need your help to prevent a cop killer from walking free. Twice in two years, Voltaire Williams CDC# E17796, the convicted murderer of LAPD Detective Thomas Williams, has been up for parole. Both times, after organized efforts by the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL) to send letters to Governor Brown and the Board of Parole Hearings, Williams was denied parole.

Law Enforcement concerned with safety impacts of Proposition 64
As Election Day draws near, both sides of the legalized marijuana debate are squaring off. Law enforcement officers are expressing their concerns based on the impacts the states of Washington and Colorado suffered after legalizing the recreational use of marijuana. Kristi Eckard, a Director with the Los Angeles Police Protective League stated that "In Washington state fatal crashes related to marijuana use have more than doubled.  In Colorado, fatal accidents are up 50%."

Massive Oklahoma Manhunt Ends With Fugitive Suspect Dead
A massive, weeklong manhunt for a suspect in a string of violent crimes, including the killing of two relatives, the shooting of three law enforcement officers and multiple carjackings, has ended in a police chase and shootout that left the man dead in western Oklahoma.

Suspect In Custody After Fatal Shooting Of Sheriff's Deputy
Authorities have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a sheriff's deputy in western Wisconsin. Rusk County Sheriff Jeff Wallace says the suspect surrendered Sunday morning as investigators searched for him in a residence in Conrath, about 130 miles northeast of Minneapolis. The suspect is jailed pending formal charges.

Illinois officer killed in crash during pursuit
The Chester community is mourning the loss of one of its own. Police officer and firefighter James Brockmeyer, 22, died Friday night during a police pursuit in rural Randolph County. “It was the first time we had to take one of our own out,” said Chester Fire Chief Marty Bert.

Detroit police mourn death of officer in hit and run
Detroit Police Officer Myron Jarrett was standing on the street, next to a patrol car, trying to get some information from two other officers who were investigating an accident Friday night. That's when an engine revved. A van, speeding toward them, plowed into the patrol car, flinging Jarrett 30 feet. The van then slammed into a second police car and finally, into a civilian vehicle.

Alaska officer succumbs to injuries
Fairbanks Police Sgt. Allen Brandt, who was shot six times in the line of duty on Oct. 16, died Friday due to complications from an eye surgery, according to the deputy chief of police. Deputy Chief Brad Johnson announced Brandt's death Friday evening at a news conference, which was broadcast live over Facebook.

Five hours of terror: Deadly string of shootings in South LA
Police are investigating five related shooting attacks — one of which included a death — during a five-hour period Saturday in South Los Angeles. With details still sketchy, a man, approximately 25 years old, was shot a little after 4:30 a.m. in the area of Hoover and 90th streets, where police found the man unconscious and not breathing, according to Officer Norma Eisenman of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.

LAPD Chief Beck Fractures Pelvis In Off-Road Motorcycle Accident
Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck is recovering after suffering a fractured pelvis in an off-road motorcycle accident in the Tehachapi Mountains, the agency announced Sunday. The incident occurred Saturday while Beck, an avid motorcyclist, was riding with friends and fell on a rocky trail, the LAPD said in a news release. The police chief was able to ride back to his truck, drive home and subsequently received emergency care at a hospital, the department said.

2 Women Recovering After Being Stabbed Inside Echo Park Bar
Authorities say two women were recovering Sunday after being stabbed at an Echo Park bar. The incident unfolded overnight inside the Gold Room on Sunset Boulevard at Echo Park Avenue. According to police, the women were approached by an intoxicated man, who is accused of stabbing both inside the bar.

Man beaten to death outside Halloween Party in Hollywood, police say
A 29-year-old man leaving a Halloween party at a Hollywood nightclub was beaten to death by two men who chased him from the bar after it closed and one of the suspects was in custody, Los Angeles police said. The fight happened about 2:20 a.m. Sunday outside of Couture, 1649 N. Cahuenga Blvd., LAPD Officer Aareon Jefferson and witnesses at the scene said.

Victims of a Loz Feliz home invasion believe the suspects who came into their home wearing ski masks appeared to know the layout of the house and what they were after.

Man Stabbed to Death in Pacoima
Police are searching for two people who they believe are connected to a deadly stabbing during a music video shoot in Pacoima Saturday.  A man was stabbed to death just before 2:30 a.m. in the 12400 block of Bernadette Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department Foothill Division.

LA's Most Wanted: Death of Hernán Cardona
Hernán Cardona was murdered on Friday night, April 18, 2008 at the Auto Zone on Washington Boulevard at WesternAvenue where he worked as a security guard.   Cardona was in the store's parking lot assisting a customer who was having battery problems when two men walked up and shot him in the chest. Even though Cardona was mortally wounded, he tried to chase the men who shot him.  He died a short time later.

Authorities are searching for a pair of home-invasion robbers who posed as sheriff's deputies in the Westmont area of South Los Angeles Thursday. The robbery occurred in the 1300 block of West 87th Street about 3:40 p.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Martinez said.

Burglars Caught On Camera Stealing Laptops Belonging To South L.A. Non-Profit
A South Los Angeles non-profit, Teens Exploring Technology, which serves inner city kids, has fallen victim to a car burglary caught on camera in downtown Oakland. Security video showed a man in a hoodie breaking the back window of a silver SUV last Sunday afternoon before reaching in and taking two laptops and a backpack. Seconds later, another man wearing a baseball cap reached into the same vehicle and stole another backpack and laptop.

21-Year-Old Driver Charged With Manslaughter in Hit-and-Run Crash That Killed 2 Brothers in Chatsworth
A driver was charged Friday in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Chatsworth that killed two brothers, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced. Dylan Shane Rutherford, 21, of Simi Valley faces two felony counts each of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit-and-run driving resulting in death, the DA's office reported. Brothers Hector, 44, and Ernesto Castro, 42, both died in the crash, prosecutors said.

Man Takes Identity of His Shooter to His Grave
On Jan. 14, nearly five years after he was shot in the head, Eddie Mangum died.
He knew who pulled the trigger -- but he stayed silent. The 43-year-old man took the secret to his grave, refusing to tell his own family who shot him. Recently, new details emerged in the April, 28, 2011 shooting. At around 5:40 p.m., Mangum was inside his vehicle near a liquor store in the 10000 block of South Main Street in South Los Angeles when a man walked up and fired a single gunshot into his head, according to the LAPD Gang Homicide Division.

Father of man fatally shot by El Cajon police establishes foundation for police reform
The father of Alfred Olango has announced the creation of a foundation for police reform, in the name of his son, who was killed by El Cajon police last month. Richard Olango said San Diego would be the headquarters of the Alfred Olango Justice and Unity Foundation “for the whole world.”

Baca's lawyers to argue for change of venue, removal of lead prosecutor
Lawyers for Lee Baca are expected to argue Monday that the corruption case against the former Los Angeles County sheriff should be moved to Orange or Riverside counties because prior negative publicity has made it impossible to find an impartial jury in Los Angeles County. “Based on the constant, inflammatory, and far-reaching media coverage surrounding this matter, a trial within the Central District of California, particularly within Los Angeles County, will violate Mr. Baca's due process rights,” the defense motion states.

Shopping jet fighter parts to Iran? 2 LA men face charges
Two Los Angeles-area men face trial in December on federal charges alleging they attempted to smuggle military aircraft parts and other potential defense items to Iran. Zavik Zargarian, 52, of Glendale, and Vache Nayirian, 57, of Lakeview Terrace were among five defendants charged in a nine-count federal indictment unsealed Wednesday that details a conspiracy to purchase and ship jet fighter aircraft parts worth more than $3 million to Iran, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Politicians and activists demand answers on mystery donations tied to 'Sea Breeze' developer
Two Los Angeles-area elected officials and several neighborhood activists called Sunday for an investigation into campaign donations made by people with ties to a developer who secured City Hall approval for a controversial 352-unit apartment complex last year. The Times reported that dozens of donors with direct or indirect connections to real estate developer Samuel Leung gave more than $600,000 to L.A.-area politicians as his $72-million project was being reviewed.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors secretly launched a public corruption investigation of its former Chief Executive William T Fujioka shortly after his retirement two years ago, examining his role in real estate dealings, a multimillion-dollar emergency communications project and other county business, according to a document obtained by The Times and officials familiar with the probe.

LA supervisors to vote on civilian oversight of sheriff
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is expected Tuesday to take the long awaited step of creating a civilian commission to act as a watchdog for the sheriff's department. The idea of a citizen's panel arose three years ago amid a federal investigation into inmate abuse inside LA County jails. That investigation led to the indictment of more than 20 deputies and the abrupt resignation of former Sheriff Lee Baca.
