Suspect In Officer Deaths Has History Of Racial Provocations
A white man with a history of racial provocations and confrontations with police ambushed and fatally shot two white officers in separate attacks as they sat in their patrol cars, authorities said. Police took 46-year-old Scott Michael Greene into custody hours after the killings early Wednesday, less than three weeks after he argued with officers who removed him from a high school football game where he had unfurled a Confederate flag near black spectators.

ATF and LAPD raid San Fernando Valley homes tied to gun and drug trafficking suspects
Armed federal agents wearing all-black helmets and bulletproof vests conducted a raid shrouded in early morning darkness Wednesday in San Fernando as part of a larger operation against suspected gun traffickers and narcotics dealers. The suspects, identified as Anival Alvarez, 41, and Maribel Lopez-Reyes, 30, were charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and two counts of distributing about one-quarter pound of the drug, authorities said.

LAPD Search For Suspect Wanted In Armed Robbery In Tarzana
Authorities searched for a suspect wanted in an armed robbery in Tarzan on Wednesday. Los Angeles police said the suspect approached a victim in the driveway of an apartment complex on Collins Street after noticing the victim had cash on him. Authorities said the suspect pulled a gun on the victim and demanded the money.

Self-proclaimed priest arrested again for violating probation, authorities say
Erwin Arnoldo Menacastro was back in handcuffs this week by the Los Angeles Police Department for violating his probation. Only FOX 11 Investigates was there as he was taken back to jail. This is a man Fox 11 first exposed a year ago. Menacastro, better known as "Father Mena," had been infiltrating Catholic churches since the 1990's and passing himself off as a Roman Catholic priest.

Fire At Narcotics Lab In Hollywood Leaves 1 Person Severely Burned, LAPD Says
One person suffered severe burns in a fire Thursday morning at a narcotics lab in Hollywood, authorities said. A caller reported the blaze at 2:45 a.m. at a location in the 1900 block of Cahuenga Boulevard that was possibly a honey oil lab, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police Ask For Witnesses To Crash That Destroyed McLaren 650 Sports Car
Witnesses to a Woodland Hills crash that demolished a McLaren sports car and injured two motorists were sought Wednesday by police investigating the collision. The crash happened at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday at Platt Avenue and Califa Street, LAPD Det. Bill Bustos said. The lime-green 2015 McLaren 650 — which has an MSRP of $265,000 — was going south on Platt Avenue “at a very high rate of speed” when it collided with a 2014 Audi A6 that was turning left from northbound Platt Avenue to go west on Califa Street, Bustos said.

Man Who Fatally Stabbed Girl, 3, ‘for No Apparent Reason' at Mother's Workplace Tied to at Least 2 Other Crimes
A man who allegedly fatally stabbed a 3-year-old girl at her mother's workplace in downtown Los Angeles is tied to at least two other unrelated crimes, officials said Wednesday. Ruby Vasquez was killed, allegedly by her mother's co-worker, at a clothing factory in the 800 block of McGarry Street about 5:15 p.m. Monday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Driver Shot, Killed In South Los Angeles Identified As W Hotel Employee
Friends and family have identified a man who was gunned down in South Los Angeles as a W Hotel employee. Manny Alvarado, 25, was shot in the early morning hours on Monday when he was returning home from a friend's house, according to his family. Alvarado's family said he had picked up a friend earlier in the evening at the W Hotel in Hollywood where Alvarado worked.

KTLA Anchor Lu Parker Arrested At LAX For Theft, Police Say
A news anchor at KTLA was arrested for theft at the Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday, according to authorities. LAX police confirmed 48-year-old Lu Parker, a midday news anchor on KTLA, was arrested after they said she took a pair of $200 headphones at about 7 a.m. Officials stated the incident happened at the TSA passenger-screening area in Terminal 6.

Man, 81, Who Uses Wheelchair Has Been Missing Since August
Friends of Bobbie Herndon handed fliers to anyone who would take one, hoping someone will see the 81-year-old man and call police. A missing-persons report was filed this week when friends realized not even Herndon's assisted-living facility, where he's lived for years, knows where he is.

Gun battle with LAPD gets high-speed chase driver 32 years behind bars
A young man who led Los Angeles police on a high-speed chase during which his passenger fired shots at officers was sentenced Wednesday to 32 years in state prison. Avel Jowan Turks, now 20, was sentenced by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon immediately after pleading no contest to two counts of assault on a peace officer.

After fatal Granada Hills shooting, LA leaders crack down on party houses
The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday cracked down on party houses, unanimously voting to instruct the city attorney, with help from the Police Department, to draft an ordinance that regulates the often unruly gatherings held at local homes. “The issue has become so acute that entire houses are being built for the purpose of hosting weekly parties,” said L.A. City Councilman David Ryu, whose 4th District includes Sherman Oaks, Toluca Lake and a portion of Van Nuys.

City Of LA To Spend $800K To Study Feral Cat Problem
An estimated 1 to 3 million cats roam the streets of Los Angeles, and now the city will spend $800,000 trying to figure out what to do about them. “There animals. They're not friendly unless you feed them,” David Charitan a concerned citizen said. “And once you feed them they're going to continue to breed. They are eating everything. They're eating rodents which is great, but they're eating lizards. They're eating all the birds.”

Activists gathered at Los Angeles City Hall Wednesday to urge the city to hold off on fining and citing street vendors while council members consider legalizing the sale of food and wares on public sidewalks. The activists, many of them street vendors, also demanded that City Council members speed up their pace on drawing up a vendor permitting program. The issue has languished in the Public Works Committee for more than a year.

Jeff Dietrich and his kitchen crew prepare about a thousand meals a day at this soup kitchen in the Skid Row area of downtown Los Angeles, feeding the homeless using money collected from small donations. But CBS2's David Goldstein found thousands of taxpayer dollars earmarked for the homeless spent on food for executives, plus furniture, gift cards, and even a $3,300 holiday party.

LA Roads Are Second-Worst In Country, Study Says
Los Angeles drivers not only have to battle the worst traffic in the United States, but they must do so on roads that rank as the second-worst in the country, according to a report released Tuesday. Sixty percent of Los Angeles roads are in “poor” condition, costing drivers $892 a year in maintenance costs, according to the report from TRIP, a Washington, DC non-profit that researches and analyses data on transportation issues. Only the San Francisco area had a higher percentage of roads in poor condition at 71 percent.
