Alleged LA Gang Members Charged With Killing Marine
Three alleged gang members have been charged in the death of a Marine who was gunned down in a car while visiting Los Angeles. Oscar Aguilar and Esau Rios were charged Tuesday with murder while a third man was charged with being an accessory after the fact. It's unknown whether they have lawyers.

Teen Bicyclist Dies in ‘Tragic Collision' on Way to School in Pacoima: LAPD
A 15-year-old bicyclist was killed in a "tragic collision" on the way to school when he got trapped between two vehicles that crashed in Pacoima Tuesday morning, a Los Angeles Police Department detective said. The fatal crash occurred around 7 a.m. in the 11700 block of Glenoaks Boulevard. "Unfortunately, he was going to school on his bicycle ... and a tragic collision occurred between two large vehicles," said Detective Bill Bustos of LAPD's Valley Traffic Division.

LAPD Taking Deep Look At Racial Profiling Concerns
The Los Angeles Police Commission met for nearly six hours on Tuesday to take an in-depth look at the issue of racial profiling and police bias. A 140-page report was submitted to the department that found the city has made significant strides over the years to eliminate bias and discriminatory actions. It also included a survey which found that 73 percent of residents polled either "somewhat" or "strongly" approved of the job the department is doing. The union representing officers, the Los Angeles Police Protective League, expressed pride that 84 percent of the survey respondents overall believe officers conduct themselves in a "professional manner." In a statement, the League called on the city to provide additional resources so that Community Policing can be expanded. "The residents and police officers of Los Angeles deserve a Community Policing Reset, but that will require policymakers to roll up their sleeves and match their rhetoric with action," declared the statement.

Tearful Vigil Held For Grandfather, 67, Fatally Stabbed At Park In North Hollywood
A candlelight vigil was held Monday evening for a 67-year-old grandfather who was fatally stabbed while walking in a park in North Hollywood. Federico Hernandez, a father of eight, and a 61-year-old man were attacked at about 6:30 a.m. Saturday in Victory Vineland Recreation Center Park, in the 11100 block of Victory Boulevard. The second victim survived but was hospitalized in serious condition.

Debate Over Sanctuary Cities Hits Home With Man Whose Son Was Murdered
Some people believe Mayor Eric Garcetti's stance proclaiming Los Angeles as a welcoming city for immigrants means it's code for a “Sanctuary City.” Those who have been victims of violent crimes by undocumented immigrants, however, are left asking, “Where's our sanctuary?” The debate over sanctuary cities is hitting home for one Southland family.

Authorities Investigate 2 Unrelated Hit-and-Run Crashes Near MacArthur Park Within 24 Hours; 1 Arrested
Los Angeles Police officials are investigating two separate hit-and-run crashes that occurred near MacArthur Park within 24 hours of each other. Officials have made an arrest in one of the cases, according to the LAPD. The first crash occurred along South Alvarado and West Third streets about 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Wild Police Chase Ends With Pit Maneuver In South LA; Driver In Custody
A driver was taken into custody Tuesday morning after a dramatic police chase ended on a street in South Los Angeles. The pursuit began around 5:45 a.m. when a California Highway Patrol officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a white car driving on the right shoulder of the westbound 105 Freeway.

Middle School Archers 'Crushed' After Bows Go Missing
More than a month after 14 bows worth $2,000 went missing from a shipping container on the playground of a Pacoima middle school, the student archers are slowly getting back into the groove, thanks to donors who helped pay for replacement equipment. The students at iLEAD Pacoima started practices and tryouts again, which has made them very happy.

LAPD seeks public's help in locating 64-year-old double leg amputee missing man
The family of Gerald Lipeles and the Los Angeles Police Department's Missing Persons Unit are asking for the public's help in locating him. Gerald was last seen on November 3, 2016, around 4:00 p.m., in the 1400 block of Grand Avenue in the City Of Los Angeles. Gerald was last seen wearing a yellow t-shirt and white shorts. Gerald's family is concerned for his safety.

Uber, Lyft Drivers Nabbed in LAPD Stings Funded by Taxi Industry
For years, the Los Angeles Police Department has set up these stings to catch so-called "bandit taxi drivers." Police describe these bandits as people who illicitly pose as cab drivers, sidestepping regulators and taking cash fares. That hardly fits the description of Uber and Lyft drivers, who are background checked and state regulated. But Uber and Lyft drivers are also prohibited under city law from accepting fares in cash, and they are increasingly being caught in bandit taxi stings.

ACLU files suit to thwart resumption of executions in California
A civil liberties group on Tuesday filed a lawsuit that could slow California's plans for resuming executions. The ACLU of Northern California challenged a state law that gives the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation wide flexibility in establishing execution procedures. Delegating such policy decisions to a state agency, the suit says, violates separation of powers provisions of the California Constitution.

Anchorage police tie gun used to ambush officer to 5 killings
The handgun used to wound an Anchorage police officer last weekend has been linked to five previously unsolved homicides this year in Alaska's largest city, police said Tuesday. Lt. John McKinnon, head of the city police's homicide division, said the Colt Python .357 revolver was linked through ballistics to two double homicides and one other killing.

Chicago's top cop helps nab carjacking suspects
Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson helped capture three carjacking suspects Friday night on the West Side. Johnson was already in the area on his way to a 9:30 p.m. press briefing in the Austin District when he and several other officers spotted a Lexus sedan that had been carjacked in Cicero speeding east through the district and gave chase, said Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

Revised LA Utility Settlement Would Return $67M to Customers
A court-appointed independent monitor has verified at least $67 million in refunds and credits that the Department of Water and Power will need to pay to thousands of customers who were overcharged under a botched billing system upgrade three years ago. Jack Landskroner, the attorney who represented DWP customers, said Monday that even more refund claims could be verified in the future.

LA housing affordability measure forces city, developers to adapt
A week after Los Angeles voters passed a new housing affordability measure, city officials are figuring out how to mesh the citizen's initiative with local law, while developers grapple with what this means for their bottom lines. Measure JJJ, which failed to receive the backing of top city officials, requires developers with projects requiring land use changes to include a certain amount of below-market homes in their projects and follow certain wage and hiring rules.
