LAPD Investigating Body Found in Parking Structure at Hollywood Hills Apartment Complex as Possible Murder
Police on Tuesday were investigating a body found in suspicious circumstances in the Hollywood Hills, on the border with Studio City, authorities said. Officers responded to a call about a dead body at the Toluca Hills Apartments in the 3600 block of Barham Boulevard around 1:27 p.m., according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Tony Im. The incident was being investigated as a murder, he said.

Teen Describes Rape In North Hills In Hopes Of Catching Suspect
A 15-year-old victim of an alleged rape in North Hills is speaking out in hopes that her armed attacker can be caught before he strikes again. The high school sophomore said the attack happened last week along Nordhoff Street near Lemona Avenue in North Hills. She said she was heading home from McDonald's around 11 p.m. when a man approached her. Anyone with information is urged to call the Los Angeles Police Department at 1-877-LAPD 24-7.

Woman Hospitalized After Being Shot In Downtown LA, Police Say
A woman was hospitalized in unknown condition after being shot Tuesday afternoon in downtown Los Angeles, authorities said. The shooting occurred in the 1200 block of Hope Street and was reported at about 3:30 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department said. An ambulance responded to the scene and transported the victim to a medical center, according to the LAPD. Investigators said three people -- two males and a female -- were being sought in connection with the shooting. No further description of the suspects was given.

Teen injured in open fire shooting in South LA
A teenager suffered a graze wound in a shooting Tuesday in South Los Angeles. A male suspect opened fire about 2 p.m. in the area of 11th Avenue and 41st Street, according to Officer Sal Ramirez of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section. The suspect fled the scene on foot and an ambulance was summoned to take the victim to a hospital, he said. A detailed description of the suspect was not immediately available.

LAPD Officials Search for Person Who Shot at Courier at Check Cashing Business
Los Angeles Police officials are searching for a person who allegedly shot at a courier at a check cashing business Tuesday afternoon. The incident was reported about 2:15 p.m. near the intersection of Western Avenue and Washington Boulevard in the Harvard Heights area, said Officer Sal Ramirez. The gunman shot at the courier, but missed, hitting the van instead. The person ran away from the scene and has not been found, Ramirez said.

Women Involved In Demolition Derby-Style Fight In South LA Tell Their Side Of The Story
Two women spoke publicly for the first time Tuesday after being caught on video in a demolition derby-style fight in a South Los Angeles parking lot. The video has been viewed by millions, and it shows two cars colliding several times as well as two women fighting one another. LAPD confirmed the incident is being investigated, but did not comment further on the matter.

LAPD Works To Calm Fears Of Mass Deportation During Trump Presidency
There were words of reassurance for the dozens of people who showed up at the LAPD's Rampart Division meeting Tuesday night. Ten-year-old Siomara Monroy says she came with her undocumented mom, who worries she'll be deported under President-elect Donald Trump's policies on immigration. “Donald Trump could deport them, and I'll never see her again,” Siomara said. In early November, Trump told CBS' “60 Minutes” that he plans to deport up to 3 million illegal immigrants. But the LAPD says they want to quell those fears by holding multiple meetings across the city.

Police Search For 74-Year-Old Man With Dementia Reported Missing In South LA
Authorities Tuesday sought the public's help to find a 74-year-old man with dementia who went missing in the South Los Angeles area. Alejandro Cabrera Cuque was last seen on Monday in the 1300 block of West 73rd Street, the Los Angeles Police Department reported. Cuque is Hispanic, 5-feet-6 inches tall, weighs about 160 pounds, and has brown hair and eyes. He was wearing a blue pullover sweater, a pink beanie, gray sweatpants and gray Crocs.

Cop Impersonator Carjacks Man in Hollywood Hills
Police were searching for a man who impersonated an officer and carjacked another man Tuesday evening in the Hollywood Hills. The impersonator, driving a black Dodge Charger or Challenger with tinted windows and a blue strobe light, stopped the victim at around 8:15 p.m. on the 1200 block of North Clark Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The impersonator, who had a badge and a gun, put the victim in handcuffs and then drove away with his car, a 2013 Toyota Corolla.

40 people arrested in Los Angeles as workers join day of protest for higher wages and unionization
The nationwide “day of disruption” protests held Tuesday marked the fourth anniversary of a New York City fast-food workers strike that launched the fight for a $15-an-hour minimum wage. A major backer of the campaign, and the latest protests, is the Service Employees International Union. In Los Angeles, about 40 people were arrested after refusing the LAPD's call to disperse from an intersection near downtown Los Angeles. They were among a larger peaceful demonstration of more than 200 people outside a McDonald's at East 7th and Alameda streets.

Alleged Gang Members Due in Court in Marine's Killing
Two alleged gang members are scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday for allegedly killing a 19-year-old Camp Pendleton Marine who was found shot inside his vehicle in South Los Angeles. Oscar Aguilar, 26, and Esau Rios, 28, are both charged with murder for the Sept. 16 shooting of Lance Cpl. Carlos Segovia-Lopez. Aguilar is jailed in lieu of $4.2 million bail, while Rios if being held on $3 million bail.

1 of 2 inmates who escaped from Santa Clara County jail recaptured
One of two inmates who sawed their way out of a California jail and vanished last week was recaptured late Tuesday, authorities said. The search continued for the other one. The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said Laron Campbell was taken back into custody and was being transported back to Santa Clara County. It wasn't immediately clear where the arrest occurred, and no other details were released. Deputies are still searching for Rogelio Chavez, it said.

Sacramento City Council approves police reforms, but critics aren't satisfied
Facing a chamber filled with vocal activists, the Sacramento City Council on Tuesday passed a package of police reforms that could increase access to videos of officer-involved shootings and revamp a civilian oversight commission criticized as ineffective. With a unanimous vote, council members approved a series of four measures meant to address concerns about local policing tactics, which escalated after the July shooting of Joseph Mann, a mentally ill man armed with a knife in North Sacramento.

New Orleans officer dies from injuries sustained over 15 years ago
An officer who survived a crash over 15 years ago succumbed to complications from the injuries on Nov. 8. Officer Jude Williams Lewis lost control of his patrol car while pursuing a suspect on June 1, 2001, WDSU reported. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and was in a coma for six months.  “The day that the crash happened it was devastating for the entire family,” Lewis' sister, Denise Lewis-Crawford, told the news station.

Fast-acting Ohio State officer praised for killing attacker
Officials on Monday praised an Ohio State University police officer who shot and killed a man a minute after he drove his car into a crowd and then stabbed multiple people. Officer Alan Horujko, who started on the university police force in January 2015, was responding to reports of a nearby gas leak when the car jumped a curb on campus at 9:52 a.m. Officials have deliberately skirted the words “radical Islamist terrorism” — repeatedly saying that they have not determined a motive for the attack. Horujko ordered the attacker, Abdul Razak Ali Artan, to drop the knife and then shot him when he didn't obey the command, university president Michael Drake said.

LA City Council Expected To Approve Motion To Repair Backlog Of Broken Sidewalks
Los Angeles City Council members Wednesday are expected to set into motion a $1.4 billion plan to repair a backlog of broken sidewalks throughout the city. City officials plan to spend the funds, which average around $30 million a year, over the next three decades to fix about 11,000 miles of sidewalks. The amount was agreed to as part of a legal settlement with disability advocates. According to the City Council, the number of damaged sidewalks began piling up more than 40 years ago when city leaders saddled themselves with the responsibility of fixing broken sidewalks damaged by tree roots, but soon ran out of funding to finish the job.

LA Plan Could Limit Job Applicant's Criminal History Disclosures
A proposed ordinance that would bar employers in Los Angeles from asking job applicants to reveal their criminal records during the initial stages of the recruitment process will go before the City Council Wednesday. The measure would institute a policy known as "fair chance" or "ban the box," requiring employers to remove check boxes or questions from job forms that ask about an applicant's criminal record.

City Council Puts LA One Step Closer to Streetcar Restoration
A project which hopes to put streetcars back onto roads in downtown Los Angeles cleared a hurdle Tuesday with the Los Angeles City Council signing off on a preferred route for the line and the findings of an environmental impact study. The council voted 13-0 to approve a 3.8-mile route that loops between the Civic Center, which includes Grand Park, and the Convention Center and the Fashion District in the South Park area.
