Wash. officer shot multiple times during domestic call dies
The suspect in the fatal shooting of a Tacoma officer has been shot and killed by police after a lengthy barricade situation, authorities said early Thursday. Pierce County Sheriff's Department spokesman Ed Troyer says the suspect was shot at approximately 3:30 a.m. Thursday, ending an 11-hour standoff. The suspect has not been identified.

Police Hunt Suspects Who Posed as Officers, Stole Victim's Vehicle in Hollywood Hills
A man was carjacked right outside of his Hollywood Hills home by a suspect pretending to be a police officer Tuesday night.  The incident happened around 8:15 p.m. in the 1200 block of N. Clark Street. The victim said he pulled over for who he thought was a police officer. The suspect was a in a black Dodge Charger with tinted windows and a blue light.

South LA 5-year-old killed when suspected DUI driver hits apartment
A car driven by a suspected drunken driver crashed into an apartment building in South Los Angeles today, killing a 5-year-old boy and injuring five other people, authorities said. The compact pierced into the east side of a ground floor apartment at a two-story, six-unit building in the 2800 block of South Central Avenue, near Adams Boulevard, at 12:16 a.m., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Nate Williams told NBC4 the sedan crashed into the wall of a family's bedroom and a father, a mother and the boy were pinned underneath the vehicle.

Victim Of One Of LA's Worst Child Abuse Cases Laid To Rest
Three months after one of the worst child abuse cases in Los Angeles County history. The victim has finally been laid to rest. Eleven-year-old Yonatan Aguillar weighed just 34 pounds when police found him in a family closet in Echo Park. Some of the people who came to pay their last respects were members of Yonatan's family and others who never met him.

2 Men Sentenced To 50 Years For Killing South LA Teen Over Shoe Color
Two men were sentenced to 50 years to life in prison Wednesday after being convicted of murdering a teen with special needs in South Los Angeles over the color of his shoes. Kanasho Johns, 29, and Kevin Deon Johnson, 26, were convicted in October for the 2015 murder of Tavin Price. Johns, who was also convicted of felony possession of a firearm, received an additional three years for that charge. Last May, Price and his mother, Jennifer Rivers, were at a car wash near the corner of Florence Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard.

Gangsters accused of bloody Camp Pendleton Marine killing: We're not guilty!
Two alleged gang members pleaded not guilty Wednesday in connection with the killing of a 19-year-old Camp Pendleton Marine who was found shot inside his vehicle in South Los Angeles. Oscar Aguilar, 26, and Esau Rios, 28, are charged with murder for the Sept. 16 shooting of Lance Cpl. Carlos Segovia-Lopez. The criminal complaint alleges that Aguilar personally and intentionally discharged a handgun, and that the killing was committed in association with or for the benefit of a criminal street gang. Aguilar — who allegedly has a string of prior convictions — is additionally charged with one count each of possession of a firearm by a felon and dissuading a witness by force or threat.

Cyber Crime Symposium In Los Angeles Teaches Teens Online Safety
With the increasing number of children participating online and in social media, internet safety has become a priority for parents and law enforcement. A coalition of law enforcement agencies held the 8th Annual Cyber Crime Prevention Symposium in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday to address issues concerning online behavior. "The purpose...is to educate middle and high school age kids on how to be safe on the internet," FBI agent Ronald Schloegel said.

Gov. Brown taps California's Rep. Xavier Becerra to be state's first Latino attorney general
Gov. Jerry Brown has tapped House Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra (D-Los Angeles) to be the next attorney general of California. He will succeed Kamala Harris, who was elected to the U.S. Senate in November. Becerra, 58, has served 12 terms in Congress and was making a bid to become the ranking Democrat on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee when Brown called him unexpectedly to offer the job.

In the year since Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik killed 14 people in a terrorist attack in San Bernardino, authorities have conducted more than 600 interviews, gathered more than 500 pieces of evidence and served dozens of search warrants. They launched an unprecedented legal battle with Apple in an effort to unlock Farook's iPhone and deployed divers to scour a nearby lake in search of electronic equipment the couple might have dumped there.

2nd Calif. fugitive inmate arrested after standoff
A second fugitive inmate who escaped last week from a county jail in California by rappelling down with a bedsheet was re-arrested Wednesday after a standoff with police that lasted more than seven hours. The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department says Rogelio Chavez was recaptured Wednesday night at a house in San Jose. A SWAT team shot tear gas canisters into the home at least twice earlier in the day.

Suspect armed with AR-15 opens fire on Detroit cops in ‘ambush'
Police were responding to a call Wednesday when at least one suspect opened fire on the officers.  Officials told Fox 2 that officers were called to a scene when someone shot at their patrol car with an AR-15.  Police are searching for three people in connection with the shooting. Authorities said only one person opened fire, but the others are sought in connection with the crime.

NC officer wounded in shooting
An officer and a suspect were wounded in an exchange of gunfire as police investigated a reported break-in at a North Carolina apartment complex Wednesday, authorities said. The city of Raleigh said officers responded to reports of a break-in at the apartment compelx just after 2:40 p.m. A news release from the city said the suspect and the officer were taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds.

You can get a cash rebate for fixing your L.A. sidewalk
The Los Angeles City Council gave final approval Wednesday to “Safe Sidewalks LA,” a long-range plan to fix the city's buckling walkways. The program, initially backed by the council in March, seeks to shift responsibility from the city to property owners for the care of L.A.'s sidewalks. While state law dictates that adjacent property owners are responsible for sidewalk repairs, Los Angeles' policy is to fix sidewalks damaged by street trees.

Top L.A. city budget official leaves post for County Fair Assn.
Los Angeles city leaders have spent seven years clawing their way back from the financial brink, confronting and erasing a series of budget shortfalls that threatened some of the most basic taxpayer services. Instrumental in those recovery efforts was City Administrative Officer Miguel Santana, the high-level budget analyst who reports to Mayor Eric Garcetti and the 15-member City Council. At the peak of the crisis, Santana pushed for layoffs, furloughs and other measures unpopular with employee unions and even some of his bosses.
