Man Fatally Struck by Vehicle After Apparently Falling Out of NoHo Bar During Fight With Guard: LAPD
A man was fatally struck by a vehicle early Thursday after he fell into the road during a brawl with a security worker outside a North Hollywood bar, police said. The fight occurred about 1:45 a.m. in the 6300 block of Lankershim Boulevard just after the bar was preparing to close for the night, said Officer Liliana Preciado, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department. She did not know the name of the bar.

$50K Reward Offered in Hit-and-Run That Killed 70-Year-Old Woman Using Walker
A $50,000 reward was announced Thursday for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the driver who killed a 70-year-old woman in a hit-and-run crash in Hollywood. Gabriela Futsi was struck about 9:25 p.m. on Nov. 26 as she used her walker to cross Fountain Avenue near Kenmore Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. She was not in a marked crosswalk when she was hit, police said.

City council looks to enhance playground security
The Los Angeles City Council is looking at ways to better secure city playgrounds. A new motion introduced at Wednesday's meeting by Councilman Mitch O'Farrell would limit access to play areas in city parks to children and their parents or guardians. O'Farrell told KPCC he came up with the idea after hearing from several constituents that they were avoiding a park because of possible drug activity. He said that's not what parks are built for, but also understands that they still remain public spaces so they can't ban everyone who isn't a parent, guardian or child.

Rapper Soulja Boy Arrested At Hollywood Hills Home, LAPD Says
Rapper Soulja Boy was arrested at his home in the Hollywood Hills on Thursday, according to authorities. Los Angeles police said they responded to a home in the 3200 block of Dos Palos Drive where De'Andre Way, also known as Soulja Boy, was arrested for a probation violation. Officials said a firearm was recovered from the home.

LAPD detectives seek leads after fatal shooting in Valley Glen
A man shot by an unknown attacker late Tuesday in Valley Glen left a trail of blood as he staggered on a sidewalk before collapsing and succumbing to his wounds in a residential neighborhood a block away, police said today. The shooting victim was described by the Los Angeles Police Department as a 38-year-old Armenian man from North Hollywood.

Juveniles arrested in West Hills sucker-punch case have court date, LAPD says
Two juveniles arrested this month in connection with an unprovoked punch that resulted in brain injuries of a 14-year-old West Hills teen were released to the custody of their parents and are due to appear in court in early February, according to Los Angeles police. Jordan Peisner, a freshman at El Camino Real Charter High School, had exited a Wendy's with two friends after school on Dec. 2 when a boy he did not know sucker-punched him in the head, knocking him to the ground, his father Ed Peisner has said.

Man Convicted of Raping Boyle Heights Woman After Breaking Into Her Home Armed With Machete
A 23-year-old man was found guilty Thursday of raping a Boyle Heights woman last year, as well as five other charges, officials said. Manuel Larios Munoz was convicted of one count each forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sexual penetration by foreign object, first-degree residential burglary, person present and assault, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County District Attorney.

Los Angeles man accused of sexually abusing San Bernardino girlfriend's 1-year-old child
Police arrested a man accused of sexually abusing his girlfriend's 1-year-old child in the San Bernardino area then reportedly threatening the woman with a gun. Edgar Alvarado Gonzalez, 26, whose last address was in Los Angeles, was arrested Tuesday and charged Thursday on suspicion of lewd acts with a child under the age of 14, sexual penetration with a foreign object of a child under the age of 14, robbery and making criminal threats, San Bernardino County sheriff's booking records show.

Suspect Arrested in Connection With Assault Caught on Video at Hollywood Metro Station: LASD
Deputies on Thursday arrested a man in connection with an assault caught on camera at a Hollywood Metro station, officials said. In the video, a man is seen dealing an unprovoked blow to the head of an older man standing near the edge of the Hollywood and Vine Metro Red Line platform, knocking him down. Unseen in the video is the fact that the suspect also kicked the victim while he was down, according to witness Luke Cunningham.

Ex-L.A. County sheriff knew about a scheme to obstruct an FBI probe and helped plan part of it, reporter testifies
A former Los Angeles Times reporter who uncovered a scheme by L.A. County Sheriff's Department officials to interfere with an FBI probe into abusive deputies testified Wednesday that retired Sheriff Lee Baca was aware of the scandal as it unfolded and helped plan part of it. Robert Faturechi, who spent several years reporting on the Sheriff's Department for The Times before joining another news organization, was called to the witness stand against his will by federal prosecutors who have accused Baca of conspiring with a group of subordinates to obstruct the FBI investigation.

U.S. Justice Department officials have launched an investigation into whether the Orange County district attorney's office has routinely denied accused criminals fair trials by using jailhouse informants to secretly gather evidence. The undisclosed role of informants in several high-profile cases has roiled the county's criminal justice system and raised questions about the conduct of prosecutors and sheriff's jailers.

Calif. Orders Uber To Halt Self-Driving Car Rides
California regulators warned ride-hailing company Uber on Wednesday that it would face legal action if it did not immediately stop giving people in San Francisco rides in self-driving cars — until it receives permission from the state. Uber started a public pilot program in the morning, and hours later, the California Department of Motor Vehicles sent a letter saying that the service was illegal until Uber got a permit required for putting “autonomous vehicles” on public roads.

Mother of slain DC officer serves cops, families holiday dinner
Officers and their families - nearly 400 people in all - showed up to Shirley Gibson's home for an early holiday dinner Wednesday. Gibson and her husband, Harrison, have been serving dinner for 20 years in memory of their son Brian, NBC News reported. Officer Brian Gibson was killed in a 1997 ambush while sitting in his patrol car at a traffic light. He was only 27. She struggled with a way to get through the holidays after Brian died. She decided the best way to honor him was to cook his favorite dishes and feed his brothers and sisters in blue.

LA building moratorium measure would cost region billions, according to study
Los Angeles voters will decide this spring whether to place a temporary halt to some building construction to reform what backers say is a broken land-use system that favors developers over the needs of neighbors. But if Measure S should pass, according to a study released Thursday, it would not only put a $2 billion dent in the Los Angeles economy, put 24,000 people out of work and cut $70 million from city coffers – enough to hire 1,000 firefighters or cops.

NFL Owners Approve Chargers' Lease To Share Inglewood Stadium With Rams
NFL team owners voted unanimously on Wednesday to approve a lease deal allowing the Chargers to share a future stadium in Inglewood with the Rams. The deal finalizes what was a tentative agreement from January, when Rams owner Stan Kroenke won approval from the NFL to move the team to Los Angeles, ESPN reported.
