2 Oklahoma Officers Shot; Suspect Arrested
Two police officers were shot Sunday afternoon while serving a warrant, and the man who shot them was arrested. Authorities did not immediately release the names of those involved. About 3 p.m., the officers were serving a warrant at a home in Chickasha when they were shot. The shooter barricaded himself in the home near U.S. 81 between W Almar Drive and W Country Club Road, Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. Kera Philippi said.

St. Louis Braces For More Protests After 10 Cops Injured
About 1,000 protesters surrounded the home of St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson in the Central West End late Friday, breaking at least two windows and throwing red paint at the brick house before some 200 police in riot gear moved in to break it up. There was no indication on the scene that Krewson was in the home at the time. "A total of nine police officers had been reported injured as of 9 p.m., including one officer with a dislocated shoulder and an officer with a possible broken jaw", acting Police Chief Lawrence O'Toole said shortly after midnight Saturday, appearing with Krewson in a video.

18-Year-Old Teen Gunned Down In Wilmington During Broad Daylight, Police Seek Leads
Los Angeles police asked for public help Sunday to identify whoever gunned down an 18-year-old teen in Wilmington. Daniel Zuniga was shot around 11:35 a.m. Friday, in the 300 block of North Gulf Avenue, according to police. Zuniga was walking down the street when an unknown number of suspects got out of a dark-colored SUV and attacked him, police said. Zuniga was hit several times and his attacker then fled the scene in a vehicle. Zuniga was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Motorcyclist Killed In Pacoima Hit-And-Run Crash; Driver Sought
A motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Pacoima Saturday night and authorities are searching for the driver. Authorities said the crash happened around 7 p.m. at the intersection of Osborne Street and Norris Avenue. The suspect, described as a man in his 30s with tattoos on his neck and body, was at a stop sign at the intersection, when he pulled out and turned left in front of the motorcyclist.

LAPD Beefs Up Presence On Metro Rail And Bus Lines In Wake Of London Attack
Los Angeles police are increasing their presence on MTA rail and bus lines, and major tourist venues are also seeing increased security measures in the aftermath of a terrorist bombing on a London subway train, authorities said on Friday. The Los Angeles Police Department announced the actions in a statement on Friday morning, describing them as precautionary measures. Police Believe Shooting That Left 1 Dead in Los Angeles' Mid-City Could Be Gang-Related
The Los Angeles Police Department was investigating a shooting that broke out in a residential area of Mid-City in the early morning hours on Saturday, leaving one man dead, as possibly gang-related. The incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. in the 2300 block of South Cochran Avenue, according to Officer Mike Lopez with LAPD media relations. Responding officials found the victim with a gunshot wound to his head and pronounced him dead at the scene, police said.

Teen Reportedly Steals Mustang From North Hollywood Dealership, Crashes Into Duplex
A 17-year-old was arrested Saturday in connection with stealing a Ford Mustang from a North Hollywood dealership before he allegedly crashed into a nearby duplex, authorities said. The crime occurred around 1:30 a.m. when the juvenile went to Sunrise Ford of North Hollywood at 5500 Lankershim Boulevard and stole a Ford Mustang, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Mike Lopez said.

Slow-Speed Chase Ends In Wilmington Area
Two pursuit suspects taunted officers Saturday afternoon as they led authorities on a pursuit that began in the Gardena area and ended in Wilmington. Gang unit officers initiated the pursuit in Gardena. The suspects made their way to Carson and eventually the Wilmington area. The Los Angeles Police Department said the suspect tossed a gun out of the vehicle at the start of the pursuit. It appeared that the suspects were flashing gang signs out the window as onlookers stood to watch along neighborhood streets.

US Prison Employee Arrested In Mexico For Van Nuys Killing
Police say a U.S. Bureau of Prisons employee fatally shot a man and injured another outside of a Los Angeles bar last weekend and then fled to Mexico before he was arrested. The Los Angeles Police Department says Friday 31-year-old Marco Antonio Garcia has been arrested on suspicion of murder. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney who could comment on the allegations. Police say Garcia approached two men outside of a bar in Van Nuys Sept. 10, took out a handgun and fired multiple rounds.

CHP Officers Shoot, Kill Armed Man On 5 Freeway In Boyle Heights; All Lanes Reopened
California Highway Patrol officers shot and killed a man armed with a knife late Saturday evening on the 5 Freeway in Boyle Heights, prompting a closure of all northbound lanes that lasted more than 11 hours, authorities said. The incident happened about 11:50 p.m. after officers responded to multiple 911 reports of a pedestrian wandering on the 5, near the 10 Freeway interchange, according to the CHP. An altercation took place between the armed man and the officers, resulting in the CHP deploying a Taser on the suspect followed by the fatal shooting, investigators said.

Reward Upped To $500,000 In Elaine Park Missing-Person Case, New Video Released
The reward was doubled to $500,000 Friday in the case of Elaine Park, a 20-year-old from La Crescenta who went missing in January and hasn't been seen since. The reward for Park was set to expire at noon Friday, but an anonymous donor doubled the previous reward amount of $250,000, while the deadline to claim it was extended to Sept. 24, which is Park's 21st birthday. Private investigator Jayden Brant said some tips were received after the reward was increased to $250,000 on Aug. 22, but Park remains missing.

Teacher At Elite Brentwood School Charged With Having Unlawful Sex With Student
A teacher at the elite Brentwood School was charged Friday with repeatedly having unlawful sex with a 17-year-old male student this summer, prosecutors said. Aimee Palmitessa, 45, pleaded not guilty Friday to seven counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, two counts each of sodomy and sexual penetration by foreign object of a person under 18 and one count of oral copulation of a person under 18, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office. She is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 16.

L.A. Law Enforcement Support California ‘Sanctuary' Bill; Trump Administration Rebukes Legislation
Los Angeles law enforcement officials expressed support Saturday for the “sanctuary state” bill just passed by the Legislature, saying it will protect immigrants from federal enforcement as they leave jails without jeopardizing local agencies' relationships with federal officials. The legislation passed early Saturday drastically scaled back the version first introduced, the result of tough negotiations between Gov. Jerry Brown and the bill's author, Sen. Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles), in the final weeks of the legislative session.

California Bill To Ban Marijuana Edibles In Shape Of Gummy Bears Moves Forward
Recreational pot is soon going to be legal in California, but some state lawmakers don't want edible cannabis to look like candy, which would greatly appeal to children. A bill, introduced by Assemblyman Rudy Salas (D-Bakersfield), passed final legislative approval on Thursday and sent to Gov. Jerry Brown for consideration. In 2016, Brown said he opposed the legalization of pot, but this April, he signed a proposal that would allow marijuana companies to apply for multiple licenses to grow, manufacture, distribute and sell their products.

Pot Shop ‘Restaurant Row?' Not In LA, Not Near Schools, Parks, Libraries
Don't look for a “restaurant row” of pot shops anywhere in the city of Los Angeles once the recreational use of marijuana is legal starting Jan. 1. City officials are backing a proposed law that would prohibit new stores selling weed from being near each other and being located away from schools, parks and drug treatment facilities. The Los Angeles City Council's Planning Commission has approved the proposed law that sets zoning regulations and land use guidelines on marijuana sales and cultivation in preparation for the drug becoming legal for recreational purposes on Jan. 1.

City leaders held a parade in Pomona Saturday afternoon to celebrate the 2028 Olympic Games returning to Los Angeles. L.A. City Mayor Eric Garcetti and City Council President Herb Wesson were among the dignitaries at the parade, held three days after the official announcement was made in Lima, Peru. “I think people are so excited to bring the Olympics back home to Los Angeles. A town that has Olympics in their DNA,” Garcetti said. The last Olympic Games in Los Angeles were held in the summer of 1984.
