At Least 50 Killed As Gunman Opens Fire At Las Vegas Concert
A gunman perched on the 32nd floor of a Las Vegas casino unleashed a hail of bullets on an outdoor country music festival below, killing at least 50 people as tens of thousands of concertgoers screamed and ran for their lives, officials said Monday. It was the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. More than 400 other victims were taken to the hospital, authorities said. SWAT teams using explosives stormed the gunman's hotel room and found he had killed himself, authorities said. He had as many as 10 guns with him, including rifles, they said.

Police Officers, Both On And Off Duty, Among Those Killed, Injured In Deadly Vegas Shooting
Multiple police officers, both on and off duty, were among those killed or injured after a gunman opened fire Sunday night at a country music festival opposite the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip, officials said. An off-duty LAPD officer was also wounded in the shooting — struck in the leg, a department spokeswoman confirmed. The officer, who is assigned to the LAPD's Foothill Division, was listed in stable condition.The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department also confirmed that off-duty personnel were at the festival, and that two were hit by gunfire. Both were transported to a local hospital, where one remains in critical condition and the other is listed in stable condition, authorities said. None of the officers were identified. Man, 31, Fatally Shot In Hyde Park, Possibly By Occupants Of 2 Vehicles
A 31-year-old man in Hyde Park was shot dead, possibly by occupants in two vehicles, a police officer said Saturday. The shooting occurred around 10:50 p.m. Friday in the area of 59th Place and West Boulevard, where a dark-colored SUV and a silver sedan pulled up to the shooting victim, said Officer Tony Im of the LAPD's Media Relations Section. And while it is still unclear if occupants in either vehicle participated in the shooting, the 31-year-old man was shot dead at the scene, Im said. MyNewsLA.com |

LAPD Asks For Help In Finding Missing Girl, 13, Last Seen In Boyle Heights
Police on Friday asked for the public's help in finding a missing 13-year-old girl who last seen about a week ago in Boyle Heights. Genesis Joanna Verduzco's family saw her about 8 a.m. Sept. 23 in the 1400 block of Mitchell Place, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department. The girl called a taxi, which dropped her off at Santa Fe Springs Park, at 10068 Cedardale Drive in Santa Fe Springs. ABC 7 |

Boy Shot In Broad Daylight On South LA Street, Critical Condition
A teenage boy was shot and critically wounded Saturday on a street in South Los Angeles, police said. The shooting happened about 4:15 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Imperial Highway, according to LAPD Sgt. R. Tamparong of Southeast Division. “There was some kind of altercation there and the boy was shot,” Tamparong said. “He was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He's still in critical condition but he's stable now and was expected to survive.”

Police Seek Clues After Man Shot, Another Stabbed At Arleta Party
A young man was recovering Sunday after he was shot and wounded in the San Fernando Valley community of Arleta at a party, Los Angeles police said. A second victim at the party was stabbed and was also recovering, officials said. The shooting was reported at about 7:15 p.m. in the 10100 block of Bartee Avenue, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Rosario Herrera of the Media Relations Section.

4 students, 1 Adult Injured In BB Gun Shooting At Sun Valley High School
Five people - four of them students - were injured by shots from what's thought to be a pellet gun Friday afternoon at or near a high school in Sun Valley, authorities said. The shooting was reported just before 3:30 p.m. in the 9100 block of Telfair Avenue, where Sun Valley High School is located, according to the Los Angeles police and fire departments.

San Pedro Man Arrested In 37-Year-Old Case Of Pregnant Woman's Death
A pregnant woman's suspected killer is behind bars, 37 years later. Robert Yniguez, 65, of San Pedro was arrested at his home on Thursday. Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell said they've been tracking the suspect and he knew they were trying to find evidence to make an arrest. Almost four decades after her murder, Teresa Broudreaux's husband is finally feeling some relief.

State Regulators To Review LA's 30-Year-Old Beach Curfew
California regulators will consider relaxing a 30-year-old curfew at Los Angeles beaches after the city agreed to seek a permit to close its segments of the coastline after dark. The Los Angeles Times reports the city agreed to go before the California Coastal Commission to defend its midnight-to-5 a.m. closure of 11 miles of shoreline as part of a court settlement with Venice activists who sought to suspend curfew enforcement.
