Calling It Another Three-Strikes Law, Gov. Brown Vetoes Bill Proposed In Wake Of Whittier Police Officer's Death
?Gov. Jerry Brown over the weekend vetoed a bill written in response to the killing of Whittier police Officer Keith Boyer, saying it was too reminiscent of the state's abandoned three-strikes law. The bill, penned by Assemblyman Ian Calderon, D-Whittier, would have required jailing probationers who violate the terms of their supervision at least three times.

Teenager Shot And Killed In Harbor City; Suspect On The Loose ?
A male juvenile was shot and killed Monday night in front of the apartment complex where he lived on the 1500 block of East Anaheim Street in Harbor City. He was taken to the hospital where police said he was pronounced dead. Detectives with LAPD's Harbor Patrol Division are having trouble piecing together suspect information and they're asking the public to come forward.

Photo Of Suspected Vehicle In Fatal Car-To-Car Shooting Released ?
Los Angeles police say one person was fatally wounded Monday in a shooting in the area of Foothill Boulevard and Terra Bella Street in Lake View Terrace. The victim was pronounced dead inside an SUV that crashed into a children's museum in what police say was a car-to-car shooting. Officers believe there is security video that may have captured the shooting around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Two Bike Riders Shot Near Metro Gold Line Station In Boyle Heights ?
Two men riding bicycles were shot and wounded Tuesday morning near the Metro Gold Line Indiana Station in the Boyle Heights area. The double shooting was reported around 1:30 a.m. on Indiana Avenue just north of East Third Street, according to officers at the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollenbeck Station. The victims were taken to a hospital where they are both in surgery, police said.

Police Commission To Vote On LAPD's 1-Year Drone Pilot Program ?
The Los Angeles Police Commission Tuesday will consider whether to give the LAPD the go-ahead to start a one-year experiment using an unarmed drone to deal with certain tactical situations. The department has sought to assure critics that it won't weaponize the vehicles or use them to spy on the public. The police agency's proposal calls for using the camera-equipped drone to provide its SWAT team with "situational awareness" when dealing with active shooters, armed barricaded suspects, hostage situations, hazardous materials, natural disasters, explosive devices and search-and-rescue operations.

Snapchat Threat Targeting Van Nuys High School Deemed ‘Non-Credible' ?
A threat to “just kill everyone” at Van Nuys High School was determined to be non-credible by Los Angeles School Police, a school district spokeswoman told the Daily News Monday. Even so, out of an abundance of caution over the the Snapchat-delivered threat, additional school police will remain assigned to the Cedros Avenue campus, said Los Angeles Unified School District spokeswoman Barbara Jones.

Victims Of Harvey Weinstein Should Come Forward, LAPD Urges ?
The Los Angeles Police Department said women who feel they were victims of a crime at the hands of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein should report what happened to authorities. "We absolutely encourage anyone who may be a victim of sexual assault to come forward and report the crime," Josh Rubenstein, the LAPD director of communications, said Monday.

Hancock Park Golf Club Murderer Sentenced For Chef's Knife Killing ?
A Los Angeles man who fatally stabbed a co-worker at the Wilshire Country Club nearly a year ago was sentenced Monday to 36 years to life in prison. Erick Antonio Hernandez, 30, was convicted in August of second-degree murder for the killing of Emmanuel Bravo, 28, of North Hollywood, last Oct. 21.

A New Jersey man was convicted Monday of planting two pressure-cooker bombs on New York City streets, including one that injured 30 people with a rain of shrapnel when it detonated in a bustling neighborhood on a weekend night last summer. The verdict in Manhattan came after a two-week trial of 29-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahimi, an Afghanistan-born man living in Elizabeth.

LAFD Chief To Speak To Concerned Residents After ‘Suspicious' Fires In Studio City Area
?A series of “suspicious” fires in the Studio City area in recent weeks has prompted the Los Angeles Fire Department to host an informational community meeting on Wednesday evening for area residents, authorities said Monday. Investigators are still trying to determine whether the small fires, which started on Sept. 30, were acts of arson, said LAFD Battalion Chief Michael Castillo, who supervises the arson section.

LA Reopens Section 8 Waiting List Lottery ?
The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles is reopening the Section 8 waiting list lottery Monday for the first time in more than a decade and expects more than 600,000 to apply for the rental subsidy program. The Housing Authority will use a computer-randomized system to select up to 20,000 applicants for placement on the Section 8 waiting list.
